Use Links to Show You Care

This morning I received an email from my Google Calender informing me to post a new blog post. So this week why not focus on Google and Family Friend Poems. We have a bit of a relationship. We serve their ads on some of our pages, this blog post is actually being written using Google Blogger, and today 60% of our visitors were introduced to us through Google Search, a fact I know thanks to Google Analytics.

A recent article on the Official Google Webmaster Blog, about Duplicate Content caught my attention.

You see we have an issue on this website. Visitors are posting content from our website on their personal profile pages on MySpace and other social networking sites. This can create problems for us because then Google and other search engines don't know whose content it is. This means they don't know which page to show in the search results. Your MySpace page or the original FamilyFriendPoems.com page.

Here is an example from our introduction to Friend Forever Poems, the introduction was written by Shlomo, one our editors and a talented writer. A rather unique phrase from this short pharagraph is "How is it that people can talk so casually about a concept that we cannot even wrap our minds around" At first, when I search for it on Google there are 3 results Now click on repeat the search with the omitted results included and what do you know 76 Results!

Please enjoy our content, just don't post it on the your Profile or Blog. Instead place a link to your favorite pages on FamilyFriendPoems.com on your Profile Page. There are tools, such as Gigya, Add This and other features throughout our website to help you do just that.

Publish Your Poetry - What does it Take

The FFP Poetry Forum is sporting a different look with three new moderators and a new forum called, "Getting Your Poems Published".

Ted, one of our brand new Moderators, whose enthusiasm has lit a spark in the Forums of late, has volunteered to lead this new forum.

To jump start the new forum, Ted has contributed Eight articles packed with information, resources and interesting tidbits from his own forays into the always fascinating world of Poetry Publishing.

Here's a sneak peak at What's in a Title?

What's in a title? Sometimes everything. ..... If a title sparks the editor's interest, he/she will likely read your poem, and that is the single most important step toward getting published (except for mailing the poem to the editor in the first place!). Stay true to the body content of your poem, but do take the time to invent a dramatic and eyecatching title. This will pay off for you, big time!....

And from Personal Touch

I do not care how young or old you may be, nor whether you have studied the masters or not - if you have a poetic nature, you can get your poems published. Please give me your comments and suggestions about what we have covered in this article. If you find something which needs answering, please ask. You have read this far. The obvious next step is to get you published!

Well.... go ahead....comments and suggest.

Website is back up

Please bear with us as we wade through the mess and get our website back up and running. This morning our web host has put the website back up. I hope they will not take us a down again.

I am honestly not sure why we they took us down. I have received many different reasons. I suspect the real reason is we are a victim of our own success and our web hosting company was unwilling to host us because we were using up too much of their resources.

I have therefore removed many features until we can move the website to a dedicated web server. The most obvious is that the forum is not running.

I know that many member of the forum have been worried about poems they posted and I just want to reassure you that your work is in our database and it will be put back up as soon as it is safe to do so.

I am truly sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused. I am working hard to get us back and running. As I have more information I will post it here.

Thank you for your patience.

About our Editor

Marcy has a bachelor's in psychology from Towson University , and an MSW from University of Maryland, School of Social Work . She currently splits her time between taking care of her one year old son, and editing poetry. She enjoys reading and writing poetry as a hobby, and has been Editor of Family Friend Poems for about a year.

When asked what she thinks makes a good poem, she replied with one of her favorite quotes about poetry. "A poem must not mean, but be". "A poem is a work of art", she explained, "Every element of the poem must work to create an image".

Marcy feels privileged to have a job in which she can enjoy poetry from some of the worlds up and coming poets. She thanks these poets for the stellar work that she has been privileged to enjoy.
