Dream on

Our Tale

Even now, despite the time
That's gone by since you were mine
I find at quiet moments
In my heart

That you've never left me, for
In my heart there is no door
Thus your memory locked inside
Must ere reside

Though my heart I've tried to sway
And move on to a new day
I fail in trying
For my dreams I can't escape

Where betimes you come again
And I feel the fire within
As its burns to see your face
And touch your skin

But though I hold you for a time
The dream turns so to remind
That we cannot be together
In this life

For the dream doth always fade
As I watch you slip away
And I'm left alone again
To feel the pain

As I wake and wonder why
Though a thousand times I've cried
Your wound never heals
Nor lets me comfort find

Perhaps written before time
Twas a tale of you and I
Such to make the heavens weep
Upon its read

Wherein my fate is to yearn
So I'll wait the dream's return
Holding hope that someday...
It will never end

I lost my wife almost 17 years ago and I was looking for something to say or read at her yearly memorial.
Then I read this, and it so exactly described my feelings, that not only I read it that day, I keep returning to it often, again and again, always to find it fit to my spirit and my longings for her.

Thanks!
