Getting together with family is not always joyous.
The Dark Dance
©
Brenda Lewis
Gathered all together
quasi-cheerful, halted hugs.
Assembled around a holiday themed,
calorie laden table...
Camouflaged in scented foliage,
Candle-lit beneath crystal sconces
strategically placed to hide last years'
grocery list of disappointments...
not to mention free falling judgments.
All waiting in dread to enter the lottery of who has a new job/no job, a new house/no house, a new mate/no mate?
Making small talk, while passing the gravy boat...
Inwardly, glad not to be the winner and focus of this years'
let's fix him/her up with Jane/John discussion.
Safe 'til next year, you gleefully guiltily add your input...
while spearing another piece of dry turkey breast.
