Thanksgiving Poem

Next Poem >>

Our Pilgrim forefathers did routinely observe thanksgiving, but it was a religious service that including singing and prayer. These Pilgrims were not experienced farmers. It was local Native Americans who introduced them to corn and squash, and who showed them how to fertilize the ground using fish heads. We owe our Thanksgiving holiday to their feast in 1621 which celebrated their first successful harvest.

Thanksgiving Gobble

It is not really accidental
that this poem's not sentimental,
he tried to run - it's too late,
now the turkey's on the plate,
and may your appetite be monumental.
