There has long been a side of me that sought to express in verse. I was heavily influenced by the classics, Kipling, Whittier, Poe, Longfellow, Robert Frost, and Edna St. Vincent Millay. But this part of me is known to very few people, and I have never written with a wide readership in mind. Anyone who knows me would not guess that I try to write poetry. And that is the way I like it.

You Love Now
That is the chapter when
I first met you and
Appear these words . . .
Here begins a new life
At last, when all the summer shine
that warmed life's early hours is past,
your loving fingers seek for mine
and hold them close—at last
—at last!
Not oft the bird will come to build
Its nest upon the leafless bough
By autumn robbed, by winter chilled,—
But you….
You love me now
Though there are shadows on my brow
And furrows on my cheek, in truth,—
They're marks where time's remorseless plough
Broke up the blooming swagger of my youth,—
Though gone is every youthful grace
That could win or hold a lover's vow,
Despite my old and faded face,
blessed I am that still somehow
You love me now.
