A poem about a peaceful and breathtaking beach on the Northern California coast.
Goat Rock Beach

“Goat Rock Beach”
This morning I awoke on the edge of a rocky cliff, above the Pacific Ocean
What an enchanting body of water she is to sleep by, as well as the master of gravity and motion
As I sit Indian style on Goat Rock Beach, an ecologically preserved and spiritually charged place
Found in the higher latitudes of Northern California, where the Russian River and Pacific Ocean interface
Situated on the seashore of Mendocino land, this majestic place quietly exists
Encapsulated with the scattered wildflower blooming sand dunes, and the fragranced summer sea drifts
On sand dunes of yellow lupine and green clumps of tall native grass
The early beach air is warm and refreshing, as I enchantingly sit and watch the morning waves of glass
It reminds me of the roar of the crashing ocean on the cliff that was so loud last night
Under a Full August moon, my body danced to the mandolin player, in full rhythmic moonchild delight
It seems that a good time is to be had at Goat Rock and that I’ve always been drawn back to this same stretch of beach
With huge Ospreys circling above me during sunrise prayer, it still has a lot of valuable lessons for me to reach
The clear waters of the Russian river that rush past me are alive with sacred Salmon and Steelhead
The mammals, raptors, seals and humans who still live around here, are all still being well fed
There are so many different wildlife species living there, I could never count them all
Admiration to them as I kayaked down the Russian river, in awe of the Sequoia Forest, so ominously tall
With huge rock outcroppings that adorn the deep blue bay, a vanishing tribute to the remaining pristine Mendocino coast
The isolated, alone feeling I get when I’m here, interacting with only the wild creatures, is what I love the most
