Brother Death Poem

Death Of Twin

In loving memory of my Twin Brother SFC Christopher Dale Henderson KIA 17June07

The Moment

© Athena Gordon
It is June 17, 2007
It is Father's Day
All is well and good

Then in one moment:
My skin gets clammy
My mouth stars to water
I feel like I've been punched in the stomach
The air rushes from my lungs
That moment I felt like something is wrong

Is that the moment...
When you died?
Is that the moment...
You were saying good-bye?
Is that the moment...
You knew you weren't coming home?

It is the moment my world changed
The moment I knew that I would never hear your voice again.
The moment I knew that I would never see your smiling face
The moment that left an empty space In my heart.

  • Having a twin brother, Robert, who I last saw on Father's Day, June 19, 2011, and passed away 6:15 am on June 20, 2011...I can really relate to Athena Gordon words.

  • I too am a twin, but I lost my brother to a car accident when I was only eleven. Five days after my birthday. He was only 18 at the time, and now at 16 I still feel the weight pressing down on me and I can hardly breathe. I am so sorry for your loss, makes me appreciate my twin even more.
