Daughter Death Poem

A mother writes about the experience of losing her one-year-old daughter to brain disease.

Hayley's Smile

I wrote this for my daughter who just passed away from a brain disease called Krabbe.

Hayley's Smile

My beautiful Hayley, One year old how great you are to love and hold.
Your smile through your tears makes me cry too, because I don't want this happening to you.
You’re an angel that hasn't done anything wrong and you're a baby that shouldn't have to be strong, but strong you are, as I can see.
When you can hardly breathe and you watch and laugh at children swinging from trees and you play peek-a-boo and smile at me,
It’s like Jesus is letting me know you'll smile again even after you go.
And that we need to be strong just like you and remember Hailey’s smile in all that we do.
For we will be with you again, in a blink of an eye. Until then you will be smiling, though we will cry.

  • I was looking for a poem and came across this beautiful poem. My daughters name was also Hailee and she passed just this July. She was 13 and the light of my life. I certainly hope your heart has healed a little. I know that it may never be whole, but a little goes a long way. Thank you for writing this beautiful poem.
