Son Poem

Excitement Of Having A Son

What sparked the poem was the request from my wife to write a love letter to my son for his confirmation retreat. The church would hand out the letters for the children to read. As I wrote the letter, I wanted to also give my son a gift he could reflect on whenever he wanted or needed to. A poem. So I reflected on the past 14 years and started from the beginning, with the best three words I ever heard...it's a boy!

It's A Boy!

It's a boy!

Said the nurse, as you came out kicking and screaming,
It's a boy! It's a boy! I thought I was dreaming.

With excitement, I spread the news across the land.
I said, come on son, walk with me, hold my hand.

As I watched you learn, blossom and grow,
You've eagerly listened as I shared all that I know.

Watch out! You may stumble, fall, and even drift away.
I'll be by your side, pick you up, and tell you it's OK.

My son, my son, I love you so,
I am proud of you, just wanted you to know.

That's right, it's your dad and your number 1 fan,
It's a boy!
No, not anymore, now you are a great young man.
