Poem about Family

A daughter learns to appreciate her mother's way of bringing her children up. "Life isn't fair, but I can be".

My Mother's Method Of Fairness

© Tasha C. Williams
My mother always told me and my brothers whenever we would argue or fight that 'There are two sides to every story. Always take the time to listen to them both.

When my brothers were younger they were not always honest. Knowing this, she still would allow them to have their say.

During those times I didn't understand her, I did not agree with her approach.
She would sense this and would defend herself to me by saying, “it's only fair Tasha”.

As I got older I came to appreciate my mother's method of fairness.
I actually look forward to having the chance to defend myself against whoever provides a challenge.
I even began to implement her style, whenever I make a decision I look at all of the pros and the cons involved.

Recently, on my 21st birthday I mentioned all of this to my mother and she just smiled peacefully.

My mother then said something I will never forget;
“Because you can't control the fact that life isn't fair, I am”.
