Abandonment Poem

This poem is about my dad. My mum told us he walked away and never thought of us again. The truth I will never know, but hearing little bits of what she said made me think he really hated us. This is dedicated to my sister who cries wondering who her dad is and what she did wrong to push him away. If only he could see the whole he has left in our hearts and the unanswered questions we so desperately want to know!

Lost

© Bethany Fretwell
When I was little,
my life was brittle.
My heart was alone,
and I was just a clone.
You left me dad,
something of which i ain't glad.

I'm feeling lost,
and you never paid the cost.
Mum bought me everything,
But a dad ain't a buy-able thing.
Did you want it this way,
or did you want me to lose this way?

Mum said you never cared,
about anything you had shared.
A sickly feeling inside,
washed away deep in the tide.
If you could, would you be here,
to show us that deep down you do care?

I'm lost without,
and lost within.
A feeling of hatred,
a sacred.
Be here dad,
then least i'll be glad.
