Funeral Poem for Family

I wrote this poem after the death of my Aunt. True she was elderly, and passed away after spending many months in hospital, but she had spirit, she love those around her without judgment, hesitation or doubt. During her final few weeks she would pass in and out of consciousness, but occasionally she would look at me and ask not to forget her, I assured her I never would, this poem was written for her in honor of that request.

Remember Love

© Simon Delahunty
Remember me
whist I sleep
my love, in your heart
to always keep.
That distant laugh; that hidden smile
Will bring me back; to you a while.

Remember love
that once we shared.
Unspoken strength
throughout despair.
That gentle touch and what we meant
Feel now no grief:
just loving strength

Remember us
and all we are
no distance life seen from afar.
Remember all the love we gave
whilst soft I sleep;
in this sweet grave

Remember too
that I am close
just by your side
when needed most.
And through this time
that we’re apart
know I am there;
deep in your hearts.
