Prayer Poem

Poem About My Desire To Be With The Lord

I am a 58 year old mother of 5 (grandmother of 9) and wrote this poem as a young adult many years ago. I have experienced much sadness and wrote this poem at a time when I really needed the Lord and needed peace of mind. I have grown very close to God, and I know one day the Lord will answer my prayer and touch my hand and set me free. Thank you for reading it.

Set Me Free

Lord, touch my hand
and set me free,
free from this body
which imprisons me.

Let me discover the light
of the distant moon,
and the stars that twinkle
a lonesome tune.

Let my mind be free
from the world I know,
from all its fears, tears
and all its woes.

Let me taste the sweetness
of each milky way,
instead of the bitterness
of each worldly day.

On Saturn's rings let me
dance 'round and 'round,
celebrating the freedom
my soul has found.

For this Lord, I pray
someday to be,
Lord, touch my hand
and set me free.

It was one night on the 24 of July when I was at my granny's house. My mum came up with the shocking news that my cousin had passed away and she was about 30 years old, nothing was in my mind except for pain and tears in my eyes, just thought of it that she died of HIV, it killed me inside. So this poem made me be so open I just hope that where she is she will not be troubled. Her soul will get rest and shall never be bothered ever again. Thank you.
