Religious and Spiritual Poems

Spiritual Poetry Page

What is spirituality? Some would some say it is simply matters of the spirit, but the complication comes in when you try to define spirit. Spirituality is a very hard word to define, but lets just say you know it when you feel it. When that something deep inside you feels moved to write a poem, it is probably of a spiritual nature.

The act of creating a memorial for one who has passed away is an act of spirituality. A memorial tells the world that this person may be gone but his or her spirit lives on. A memorial makes a statement that this individual will forever be tied together in the circle of life. A memorial is a statement that this person's life mattered and continues to matter. The acts of goodness and courage will never be forgotten. A memorial is a way to remember a loved one forever.
It is my opinion that all love is spiritual. It is in our nature to seek a companion to nurture and be nurtured by. When a man and a woman live together and share intimacy with kindness and respect, this is a place where the divine presence rests. Relationships between people have the potential for the greatest holiness. They also have the potential to manifest great sadness and evil in the world. "Happily ever after" is a myth that does more damage than any other myth about love. To bring your love to that higher spiritual plane takes constant work and maintenance.
The realm of spirituality is mystical and mysterious. When we look at the world with an attitude of wonder and awe, we become aware that the world is filled with spiritual life. Part of spirituality is being willing to admit that something is beyond your comprehension. Science has its place in understanding the world but it will never have all the answers When we look at the universe and into our own hearts and see that which we don't understand, we know that we have touched that which is unknowable and holy.
Death is life's greatest mystery. What happens when our soul leaves our body is the most important question. The answer will affect how we live our lives. The world is plagued with the question of what comes after this. When we are faced with the death of a friend or relative, we are stunned with grief. We don't understand, he was here and now he's not, where did he go? Where does the spirit go? The truth is that our soul knows of its eternal nature. If we ask our souls this question in a real way, we will find that we know that are made from the stuff of eternity.
