for a desire they keep hidden

(but terrified of it coming true)
Swaying. Hoping. Begging
for change.
(but terrified of something new)
Hesitant but leaping.
Whole but looking for what they’ve lost.
Wanting the world to see them

admire the moonlight
witness how the clouds gather
and disperse
how the wind chases the leaves
across the street
treasure the little moments

but hold tightly to your smile

and try to stay positive.
Focus on finding happiness in the little things,
and making small achievable goals
for yourself to feel purposeful.
To constantly remind yourself
that it could be worse
to make yourself feel better.
Giving up is not an option.
Crying all day is not an option.
Losing yourself is not an option.
You have to remember that
it is going to be ok.
It always is eventually.
You got this.

She was scared to let go.
She was worried that everything might fall apart.
But she felt this heaviness, every day, growing in her heart.
So she took a deep breath.

She was scared to let go.

She opened her hands and let it all go.
And what’s when she saw beauty above her brow,
telling her it was now *her* time to grow.
Releasing her fears, she realised what it felt like to be free.
It felt amazing, she felt like the joyous girl
she once used to be.
The chains in her mind had lied to her, saying that they
were present to hold everything in place.
But now her wings held everything together.

I’ve struggled with my mental health for a long time now, and like anything, there are good days and bad days. But even at my lowest points, I try and remember the things I have already survived. I try and remind myself that every cracking sinew is just a moment in time.

Ultimately, no matter how desperate I’ve felt, no matter how unsurvivable the breakdown may seem, the surface of the water is always reachable, eventually. Sometimes you just need to hold your breath a little longer.

Trying To Balance Grief

One of the biggest things I’m learning about grief is how it demands different things from you every day. Some days, you’re able to get a lot done. You’re able to smile and be fully present with people. Everything feels fully balanced and manageable...steady. But other days, even normal daily tasks feel impossible to balance. And despite your best efforts, you can’t do it all. You try and build your schedule to match the day before, but it wobbles and leans and comes crashing down at your feet.

Grief will demand different things of you every day. Some days will be harder than others, but please don’t be harder on yourself because of it. The harder days need the most kindness, the most support, the most gentleness. The harder days need the most grace. If today is a harder day, I’m praying with you. I’m hurting with you. I’m holding on to hope with you.
