Published: July 2017

Collection of poems written with stanzas that have only two lines. 2 line stanzas are called Couplets. Couplets usually rhyme, but they do not have to. A stanza in poetry is a group of lines usually separated by a blank line. Stanzas of 2 lines are called Couplets from the Old French word cople meaning two.

Although I am only 26 years of age, I feel as if (in reference to The Rolling Stones' great song) time is no longer on our side. My family gets smaller as the years pass. I no longer have any grandparents, and the rest of the family rarely talks or gets along. I'm sure each reader thinks about how they really wish they appreciated their youth more, but we can't stop time; we can only cherish it.

I have struggled with anxiety for many years. It is such an awful thing, and for people who don't have any idea what it is like, it is hard for them to understand. My best dream became my worst nightmare.
She vanished while she was right there.

She left me to struggle on my own.
She left me stranded, isolated, and all alone.

I had to wake up and realize
That the only real truth are real lies.

But I can truly tell her, "You're the sweetest dream I ever had,"
And for that, I can only be grateful and glad.

To be happy again, I'll have to relive the past.
Hold on to every memory for as long as they last,

To look back at how I used to feel,

Why Play At Being Real?

I was inspired to write this poem after being stood up for the 3rd time by a guy who had led me to believe he was completely into me. Phone conversations in the middle of the night that would last for hours, dates that were absolutely awesome on every level, unbelievable rapport and compatibility, physical attraction... just a lot in common... like twin flames. But then he started making dates but never showed or even called, sometimes until a week or two later. Then he just stopped... no closure.

He seemed so sincere when he'd look in my eyes

He blew into my life like a sweet summer breeze,
Stole my heart in an instant, made me weak in the knees...

He seemed so sincere when he'd look in my eyes
And say the things I've waited to hear my whole life.

I thought he was different... I thought he was real.
I never thought I could feel the way he made me feel.

I just don't understand why he wasted the time
When there was nothing to gain on his end or mine.

It was perfectly senseless...not one reason why
He would just disappear without saying goodbye.

He had me floating on air, then let me crash to the ground.
It's too much to wrap my mind around.

Why play at being real? No one wins in the end.
Someone always gets hurt when the other pretends.

Why say all those things when you don't mean a word?
It's mean and it's cruel...it's completely absurd.

Now I'm left here to wonder what could've gone wrong,
Why he just stopped calling, why he strung me along?

My thoughts, they consume me, like a crop consumes rain.
Another sleepless night just might drive me insane.

I toss and I turn over and over again.
I can't help but feel like I've lost my best friend.

But a friend would be honest, wouldn't play with your heart.
A friend wouldn't lie to you right from the start.

A friend would still be there come tomorrow...
A friend would comfort, not cause you sorrow.

I wonder if....whatever his reasons may be
That surely he knew his actions would hurt me?

And I wonder if from time to time
The thought of me might cross his mind?

Does he think about my "angel" eyes
Filled with tears because he lied?

Does my memory haunt him in his sleep?
For him it's probably not that deep.

I truly wish him all the best,
Hope he's okay and finds happiness...

Finds everything he's looking for....
Good health, true love and so much more.

I miss him, and it breaks my heart,
That it had to end before it got to start.

I wrote this poem for my cousin, Debbie Taylor, who was also my teacher at the Christian School I go to. I miss her so much. It just doesn't seem real that she is gone. I prayed for God to help me with my poetry and this one just came pouring out of me. I just wish I had gotten more time with her. I wanted her to see me graduate, get married, have kids, and become a teacher like her. I just wanted one more everything with her. I guess that is why I titled this poem One More.

There is a competition in my son's school for poetry reciting. The topic is "Save Our Mother Earth." I did not have any poem, and my internet was not working, so I started writing this poem, and the result is what you are reading.

A daughter who is aware of the great debt she owes to her mother puts her gratitude into words. Multiple people have claimed to be the author of this poem. The poem was certainly written before 2006. At this point it is impossible for us to determine who the true author is.

What indeed would a mother not do for her child?
