Pandemic Poems

Pandemic Poems

The world is facing an unprecedented health crisis. COVID-19 has spread across the globe, bringing with it sickness, death, uncertainty, anxiety, and economic upheaval. The world has stopped like never before. Businesses are closed, and schools have moved to online platforms. Social distancing is the norm, and no one knows when the end of the virus will come. Living in the midst of incredible uncertainty takes its toll on people. But may we use this time to focus on the most important things and slow down in a way we’ve never been forced to do before.

Daily life looks very different, and this pandemic has impacted everybody in some way. You are not alone in what you are facing. The fears that rise to the surface are felt by billions of people around the world. We are all in this together. Even though the storm is raging right now, famous poet Maya Angelou once said, “Every storm runs out of rain.”

Best Children's Poetry By Contemporary Poets

Best Children's Poetry

Best Children's Poetry

What is Children's Poetry and is it different than poetry for Teens and Adults? It's not fundamentally different. Children's Poetry just needs to be written in a way that captures the interest of children.

Famous poet, Carl Sandburg's definitions of poetry include, "Poetry is an echo, asking a shadow to dance" and "Poetry is a sliver of the moon lost in the belly of a golden frog". Children's imaginations are more flexible than adults. Poetry is a wonderful way to introduce children to literature and to life.

Included in this collection are the most popular poems from contemporary and modern poets who have submitted their original poems for children to Family Friend Poems over the past 15+ years.

Poems With Descriptive Language

An adjective is the part of speech that describes a noun (person, place, or thing). Poets uses adjectives to give a detailed and vivid description of the noun they are describing.

Using descriptive language to illustrate strong feelings such as pain or love can help the poet show the intensity of the feelings they are experiencing and to paint a more memorable picture for the reader.

Overcoming Hard Times Poems

Overcoming Hard Times Poems

Each one of us will face hard times at some point in life. Sometimes the hardships come for a short season, and other times they seem to last longer than anticipated. Even though those moments feel like they are going to break us, we each have incredible strength that can push us forward. Having the determination and mindset to persevere can make all the difference.

Even though the struggles in life are not fun, and we wish we could do without them, they help develop our character. They teach us lessons we would not learn when things are pleasant. Each struggle we overcome is one more that shows us we can make it through anything. We hope these poems inspire you to find the courage to keep fighting whatever you are facing at the moment. Get ready to put the past behind you and embrace the future.

Examples Of Poems With Personification
  • Published: July 2017

Personification Poems

Personification Poems

Below are Examples of poems that showcase the literary device of personification, but first let's talk about Personification:

What Is Personification?

Personification is when you give human attributes (characteristics) to the object that is being personified. The objects are not human, and in many cases, they're not even living things.

Why Use Personification in Poetry?

  • Personification can be used to emphasize a point in your writing.
  • It can also be used to make a reader understand something you're trying to say.
  • Personification is a way to add more description to your poem by giving human characteristics to inanimate objects.

Examples of Personification in Poetry:

  • The breeze kissed my cheek.
  • When I got home from school my dog smiled at me.
  • The blanket wrapped its arms around me.
  • Rays of sunshine danced through the trees.
  • The chainsaw hummed a tune.

Poem Personification Template - Try It Yourself

This poem is a great representation of personification because it makes winter seem human.

Winter by Olivia Kooker

If winter were a person, she would be a girl with frosty hair.

Winter would wear snow pants, snow boots, gloves, a hat, and scarf.

Winter would smell like hot chocolate and peanut butter and Hershey Kiss cookies baking in the oven.

Winter would spend the day eating cookies and drinking hot cocoa by a lake.

Winter would spend the night by sitting in the snow waiting for morning so children could come out to play.

Try writing your own personification poem by thinking of a season and describing it as though it's a person by using characteristics of the season to describe what it would wear, smell like, and spend time doing.

Poems With ABCB Rhyme Scheme: Definition And Examples
  • Published: August 2017

ABCB Rhyme Scheme

These poems use the ABCB rhyme scheme. The ending words of lines two (B) and four (B) rhyme with each other. They are assigned the same letter (B) because they are "related" through rhyme. While the end words in lines one (A) and three (C) do not rhyme with each other and are therefore assigned different letters.
