Death Poem by Teens

If Only I Had Known

This poem is for my ex-girlfriend of 4 years. She committed suicide after a lifelong struggle. We had a long distance relationship for the last 2 years of it. In January of 2016 it will be one year without her. She died 3 years before our planned wedding date: 5/20/18.

If only I had known
it would be the last time I heard your voice,
I would have kept you up just a little bit longer.

If I had known
it would be the last time I told you I love you,
I would have said it hundreds of times over.

If I had known
it was the last time I was gonna hold you in my arms,
I would have held on tighter.

If I had known,
I would have done it all better.
Kissed you harder, held you longer.

If I had known you had that gun,
I would have had one too.

This is the simplest, the most powerful, the most beautiful, and the most heartbreaking poem I have ever read. I feel for you. I read this and I thought, "Oh my God." I am on the verge of tears, literally. I feel like if I read this out loud, I will start to cry. My grandmother died, from cancer, and my friend's dad committed suicide, but that's as close as death has been to me.

I'm extremely touched by this... my boyfriend committed suicide in December of 2014. I'm here for you man. But this poem, its so well written! Every stanza has a little caption, they might be the same, but they all mean something different. Very creative and unique, 5/5!
