Abandonment Poem by Teens

A girl writes about the pain her family experienced when their father left. Later her father came back in her life, and she believes that he only loves her because he thinks it's his job. When she grows up, she wants to make sure that her children have a father in their life that truly appreciates them.

My Daddy Was Never My Daddy

©

Published: February 2006

I was just nine when my dad last left me.
He left only my mom, my sister, and I.
No daddy.
I was scared.
I was confused.
My life was beginning to seem like a horror story,
I didn't know what to do.

Later on down the road,
Daddy wasn't such a stranger to us.
He tried to be our daddy,
But in him we could not confide in, nor trust.

A daddy is what I have lost.
Never shall I find one like him.
He hurt us all, made us cry.
Put us threw what it seemed like hell and back.
A daddy like my daddy is bad.

I love my daddy but I think I lost him some time ago.
The love a child should have from a daddy,
Now I will never know.
My daddy loves me,
But, not by choice, I don't think.
I think he knows he should and that's why he does.

If I ever have kids though,
I promise to have a good daddy for them,
Something my daddy never was.
