Looking a long way back from the perspective of advanced years.

Great imagery and scene setting. Very well penned. I can see this in a movie.

The Old Man

The old man sat in the rocking chair
With empty hands, his feet were bare
He looked inside, was nothing there
And so he'd lived his life.

So he looked back, long years and short
Examined things he didn't ought
The chances dropped, the chances caught
And how he'd lived his life.

He looked at battles, lost or won
The gains or losses, every one
And what he had or hadn't done
Now he had lived his life.

Regrets and pleasures, all were past.
His time grew short, and near the last
How had those years gone by so fast?
How had he lived his life?

The times of happiness and grief
All stole away, and time the thief
All withered like the greenest leaf
And so he'd lived his life.

The old man sat in the rocking chair
With empty hands, his feet were bare.
He looked inside, just memories there,
And so he'd lived his life.
