  1. 21. Open Arms

    • By Nicole R. Melson
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2019

Just a bit about my dad and me. I have two sisters, and my parents are divorced. I see my father as often as I can, but I never see my mother; she now lives in another state, but she used to live only hours away and could have visited me. But she only visited my sisters who were in a completely different state. Anyway, I do have a step-mother who is awesome. My dad is my rock, and since it is Father's Day soon, I wrote this poem.

You're the one with open arms
    When the darkness closes in.
When the shadows come and the nightmares make it hard to sleep,
You're always there to chase them all away.

  2. 22. Mommy Will Sing A Lullaby

I was inspired to write this poem for my daughter who is a single parent to a beautiful little boy, my grandson, Oliver, who is 4 years old. Every night she takes him up to bed and sings lullabies to him while holding his little hand. It is incredibly moving to watch. These are precious moments and should be treasured.

All tucked up and snug in bed
as angels stand guard above your head,
Mommy will kiss away your fears.
She'll stroke your hair and dry your tears.

  3. 23. My Annoying Sister

    • By Mariah S. Thies
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

Sisters can sure be annoying, but the time they spend together is really special.

    I have a little sister.
    She bothers me a lot.
    When we get in trouble,
She laughs and never gets caught.

  4. 24. Muffins With Momma

Growing up, I began baking muffins fairly young, initially with my Mom, later on my own. It fascinated me. Eventually I began recruiting my little siblings to help. Baking is an art, not a science, and any art has a bit of magic about it. Maybe it's my Chestertonian view of life. What turns flour, butter, eggs, etc. into cookies or muffins? Magic.

    Momma's in the kitchen
    making muffins for me.
    There's eggs, raisins, milk
And white powdery stuff I see.

  6. 26. My Dad's Addicted To The Ps2

I created this poem while I was watching my dad play on the PS2.

    Pew, pew, pew
goes my dad on the PS2.
Shooting bad guys on Battlefield 3,
    Who knew? Not me.

    Nanny is watching over us

    Up above
    Sits our nanny

  8. 28. My Sister Is Loving

I wrote this poem because it reminds me of how I always fight with my sister. This is an acrostic poem (if you look at the first letter of each line it makes a word/phrase/sentence.)

    Moaning all day long
Yapping at every bad thing I do

Super crazy hair in the morning

  9. 29. Tackle Box And Tangles

    • By Karen N. Wombles
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

The joy of a carefree day of fishing is expressed in this poem.

We'll grab our tackle boxes and head down the hill
Hoping today will be a big deal.
Let's wish for no tangles in our lines.
We all must be back by dinner time.
