My dad left me when I was 5, and recently it's really been bothering me so I figured I'd write this.

What you do makes me cry,
But I honestly can't deny
That in my heart I truly love you
You'll always be my only dad.

You haven't quite been the father I've needed
And you haven't always told me what I want to hear
You've never made it to anything I've done
Except the horse shows that you begun.

I just want to see you every day.
I just want to hear your voice every morning.
I don't think you understand,
That what you've done has torn me apart.

So for now I'll just sit here and wait,
For the day that you grow up
And realize that you've hurt
Not only me but everyone around me.

You've tried to buy my love
For so very long I let you.
But now that I'm older
I understand more, and I can't accept that.

I cannot turn to you for what I need.
I don't know if you'd ever give it to me.
I just want to know,
Have you ever really cared?

My father left my mum for another lady. Earlier that year he proposed to my mum to renew their wedding vows. Around 1 month later, she came home from work to hear he did not love her anymore. He is now living in another state. He has nothing to do with his daughters, me being one of them.

How could somebody be so cold
To leave their daughters all alone?
Without a father in their life,
To teach them how to ride their bike.

How could somebody be so cold
To leave their daughters all alone?

To stand by them day and night,
Tell them that they're beautiful, then say goodnight,
To pick them up,
Then kiss their cheek,
Then whisper I love you in their ear.

Instead of watching his daughters grow,
Be with a lady so young, yet cold.
Tell her she is beautiful, then say goodnight.
Whisper I love you in her ear.

Someday I may understand,
How a father can just go,
Leaving his children to grow
Without a father in their lives,
To teach them wrong and right.

To leave the mother, alone in pain,
And struggle to raise three girls alone,
Without a lover in her life,
Always choosing to put her daughters first,
Hiding the pain she feels,
Coming home from a day at work,
To a restless night.

Constantly questioning why God chose this to happen to her,
Then reminded by her three loving girls,
That she is loved,
And every day before she says goodnight,
Reminds them she loves them,
Kisses their cheek,
Then blows out the light.

Is Lucky to even get a C
Not fall on my face during gym

How are you Daddy?
It's been forever since we've spoken.
I guess we let this whole time pass,
And now we're completely broken.

Do you miss me the way I wish you would?
I can't imagine you do.
You've never sent cards or letters,
Even though I'm missing you.

My past attempts seem to mean nothing,
It's nice to know you care.
And even though you don't know how,
I've always wished you were there.

So, how are you daddy?
It's been a while.
I miss your laugh
And I've forgotten your smile.

I'm not even gonna ask,
If you've ever missed me.
Through the unanswered phone calls and the time that's passed
The answers I can see.

It's funny how fast the time goes,
But six years have come and gone.
Maybe you thought I didn't need you,
But you were oh so wrong.

How are you daddy?
I hope you're doing well.
I'm learning how to deal with the pain,
I think you can probably tell.

Don't ever try to make things right,
They'll never be the same.
In fact if it makes you feel any better,

The story behind my poem called "Restriction" is my journey as a teenager who struggles with an eating disorder. I'm currently in recovery and know how many other boys and girls out there go through this thinking that they're alone. I want them to know that they are never alone. And I also want everybody to know that we are our harshest judges. What we see in the mirror and cry about, most other people don't even notice. You all are perfect. Don't change!

When I was fifteen I starved myself,
hoping I could then accept myself,
but with all the weight I dropped,
the burning self-hate never stopped.

Restricting, crying, jumping-jacks,
searching for starvation hacks.
The number would drop day by day,
but in the mirror the fat would stay.

I got scared of my reflection
on my lookout for perfection.
Everyone was scared for me.
Couldn't understand what I would see
when I saw my body grow
in spite of what the scale would show.

I would purge a slice of apple,
trying to fight my silent battle.
All I felt was sharp despair.
When I ran, I gasped for air.
Everyone was telling lies,
seeing me through real eyes.

A vicious cycle owned my mind,
telling lies that made me blind.

I've struggled with self-injury, anorexia, bulimia, and have tried to commit suicide 11 times...this is what the void of depression feels like...

What Depression Feels Like

Her thoughts bob under the surface,
Her lost dreams circling around her in clouds.
Every fake smile, fake laugh,
Only feeds the emptiness inside.

Her thoughts bob under the surface,

Every fake smile, fake laugh,
Only feeds the emptiness inside.
She's lost the ability to cry,
Surrendered it to the numbness
So she no longer has to feel.

The thick, black cloud overcomes her,
Smothering her till she suffocates.
She gasps, while inside her,
Everything is torn apart.
Her heart ripped to shreds,
And repeatedly stabbed,
With a rusty dagger.

Her soul screams as the demons rip into it,
Those horrible monsters.
No. They're her demons,
Her horrible monsters.
She's her own monster.
The guilt's eating her alive,
As she slowly kills herself...

From the inside out.
She seems fine on the outside.
The same laughing, smiling girl she's always been.
The scars she keeps hidden are the only sign.
A silent scream,
But no one notices,
Or do they just not care?

She's so alone.
She's always been alone.
Ever since the shadows ate her essence,
Sacrificed herself to the cold tendrils of sin.
False promises tempting her away from the Light,
And into the barren Darkness.
She's always so LOST...

Inside her own body...
It seems her hands have a mind of their own,
As they slice her arms,
Her ankles,
Her thighs.
With the blade she's always kept as a close companion,
The same rusty razor.

She watches the blood as it leaks out,
Down her arms and thighs.
Her release from the never ending cold.
But it's not enough.
It's never enough.
Not when she carries the weight
Of the world on her shoulders.

But she knows what is enough.
She stares at the bottle of pills,
Knowing this is her escape
From the Darkness that surrounds her.
I'd be quick,
Painless.
She's already slowly killing herself.

Destroying her soul.
No one can help,
They've tried before,
And they helped...
For a while.
But then she was back to faking her joy
With the mask that became her best friend.

She began starving herself.
She could never look good enough,
She found joy in each ache of hunger.
It meant it was working,
She was going to be skinny,
But it was never enough.
How could it ever be?

When she couldn't resist food, she'd stuff herself,
Then made a point of throwing up.
She pushed everyone away,
Stuck in her solitude.
Her shadow her best friend,
But soon the shadow was her.
A forgotten ghost...

Just a piece of who she was,
Who she used to be.
Left behind as she slowly killed herself,
She's only a shadow,
A wisp in the wind.
Never finding happiness.
She lost herself.

With no hope of being found...

Coming from an abusive family, life's not always easy, but somehow I keep a smile on my face and laugh for all it's worth. I try to turn to pen and paper. Sometimes that wasn't enough, and I've turned to a blade instead. People judge you for that, and they tend to not look past scars. Maybe they should. This poem is exactly that.

Do Not Judge Someone Else

Just because I have a smile on my face,
It doesn't mean that I don't cry when I'm alone.
Doesn't mean I don't have problems,
Doesn't mean I'm not dying inside.

Just because I have a smile on my face,
It doesn't mean that I don't cry when I'm alone.
Doesn't mean I don't have problems,
Doesn't mean I'm not dying inside.
All it means is that I can look past the negative in my life.

Just because I laugh a lot,
It doesn't mean I'm happy,
Doesn't mean my life is perfect.
You don't know me, you don't know my story,
You don't know what I've been through.

Just because I self-harm,
It doesn't mean I'm suicidal,
Doesn't mean I'm going to hack at my arm in the middle of class
Or attack you with a scalpel.
All it means is that the pain is getting too great.

Just because I have scars,
It doesn't give you the right to judge me,
Ostracize me like some sort of alien,
When instead you should be my friend.
Those scars mean that I'm real.
Look past them and see the real me.

I am 16 years old, living in a household that seems of so perfect, but don't let your eyes fool you. I hear kids complain every day about having strict parents. I almost wish I did. I'd like to at least get a second glance from my mother. A little acknowledgement from the person I try so hard for, but it never comes.

Mother Not Acknowledging Her Daughter

Don't let it fool you.
This smile isn't the real me.
I don't understand why you don't care.
I was once everything you wanted me to be.

As I grew older,
I noticed your interest started to slip away.
I know I was once your baby,
But I don't know what I am today.
When things started to get tough,
You simply turned your cheek.
I never realized before
That this may be why I'm secretly weak.
I needed your support
So I could grow up strong.
But when something happened,
You simply told me I was wrong.
Although I'm not sure if it's the same,
I love you with all my heart.
I don't know what it does to you,
But it kills me when we're apart.
I've never tried so hard
For anyone else in my life.
If you don't accept me,
I'll keep my head down and take it with pride.
When I really need you,
You seem to be gone.
What hurts the most
Is that you're always here at home.

I Felt That Nobody Loved Me

I miss the two things I once had
one, my mom, and two, my dad
my dad, I was always close to
and my mom, my best friend

but then one day it all came to an end
when the devil came into their lives
there was nothing I can do but cry
my dad in and out of jail cells
my mom on and off the streets
and I know I was just a little girl
but my feelings were strong and mature
they stopped paying attention to me
that is when I felt that nobody loved me
I started to pray every single night
and would beg Jesus for just one little sign
to help my mom and my dad
because Jesus was the last person I had
I am still young and I have to be strong
because my life isn't over and time isn't gone

The refreshing rain falls.

The soothing music plays.

Trying To Hide The Pain

People think that I have it all,
But they know nothing, nothing at all.
So now I laugh to hide my tears,
The tears that I gain from my fears.

You may think I'm too young to know such.
If this is so, you know nothing much,
For I have bared so much pain,

There sat a black dove,
dark as night,
doing wrong,
though knowing right.

There sat a black dove,

Its nature is bad
but not by choice.
How would you feel
with an unheard voice?

It hates the world
surrounded by love.
Its only wish
is to be a white dove.

A symbol of hope, honesty,
peace, and devotion.
It just wants to be happy
and escape this commotion.

Instead, all the world does
is turn away,
and every silver lining
fades to gray.

Expected to be seen
but not heard
is a painful thing
to this lonely bird.

A black dove
sits and cries and sings
as it recollects

Hiding behind a dark veil,
The tears she cries are stark black.
Her body is marked with scars
From the monster inside.

Her soul is as cold as ice,
But her heart still burns bright,
But she still wanted to give up.
She was corrupt by the voices,
Forcing her to scream and shout,
But nothing comes out.
She was being eaten alive
By the darkness; it consumed her.
Day after day,
Minute after minute,
Second after second,
Her heart grew dim.
The light was slowly burning out.
She started to fade into a shade of gray.

This is my way of telling people not to judge anyone. You never know what a person has gone through or is going through. These are things that I've been through. Some I have dealt with and overcame and some I'm still dealing with.

Don't Judge Me Poem

Have you ever truly been by yourself, all alone?
Have you ever been left 3 months by yourself in a home?
Have you ever have to fend for yourself as a kid?
Have you ever had a parent leave their child like mine did?

Have you ever truly been by yourself, all alone?

Have you ever had a parent leave their child like mine did?
Have you ever had someone close die in the past year?
Have you ever had it happen so often that you ran out of tears?
Have you ever hated God for turning his back on you?
Have you ever cried till your eyes were red and sore too?

Did you ever have to walk two miles during a snow storm?
Having to do it while wearing nothing to keep you warm?
Did you ever lived in a home without hot water or power?
You ever washed yourself in the winter, body's going numb in the shower?
Did you ever try to commit suicide but then decided not to do it?
Knowing it would kill your siblings and you couldn't put them through it.

Then don't ever judge me and think that this is all for show,
Because you don't know half the things that you think you know.
Thinking that I was beat as a child was all an act,
The proof of abuse are written in the scars on my back.
I've told you everything, but you still think I'm lying.
I only smile at school to hide the fact that I'm crying.

I just wish she would tell us what we've done so wrong

I don't know why she has done us this way.
I wish she chose to stay.

The bad thing is,
my older sis
left the next day.
Things are just not going the right way,

It's just my younger brother, sister, dad, and me at the house,
It's quiet as a mouse.
All we do is just sit around
without making a sound.
we have so many things on our mind,
so many questions to the answers we'll never find.
We've told our mom so many times we want her to stay,
but she still chooses to walk away.

My older sister stays with her boyfriend
way out in Millen,
She visits on Sundays
and goes back to him on Tuesdays.

We're all in so much pain,
but it's driving me insane.
I don't know why life is such a blur.
Can't she see how much we love her.

I really miss us being a family.
I just wish things would go back to the way they used to be,
but my dad says it'll take some time,
and everything will be just fine,
so as the days go by,
I look up at the sky.
and wonder why my life has turned out this way.

I originally wrote this poem for a homework assignment, but then people started to comment on it. I wrote it because I used to be depressed and I used to cut myself. That was about two years ago. Ever since I wrote this poem, it has helped me to stop being depressed and to stop cutting.

Life Is My Enemy

I am depression.
You know me for destroying people's lives.
My mother is the drugs you take to ease your pain.
My father is the pain you feel every day.

I am depression.

I was born in your thought, that can't be erased.
I live in your memories that last forever.
My best friend is death.
Because we work as one, we live to make you grieve.
My enemy is life
Because I long to bring you pain.
I fear for the worst
Because it is not the terms I wish for.
I love to make you sad
Because that is how I am.
I dream to make you miserable.

I wrote this when I was home and crying and telling myself no one understands me!

She is happy, I'm sad.
She has friends, I don't.
People understand her;
No one understands me.

She is happy, I'm sad.

She feels happiness and love.
I feel pain and sadness.
She doesn't cry;
I cry all the time.
She will have someone to love.
I never will
She is pretty in pink,
I'm dark and black
She is warm inside.
I'm always cold.
She doesn't bleed tears.
I do every day.
Her heart is red.
Mine is black.
She doesn't have emotions.
I have emotion.
Her emotions don't run her life.
Mine do.
