  1. 61. Dad, Have You Ever Really Cared?

    • By Cassey Harrington
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems August 2010

My dad left me when I was 5, and recently it's really been bothering me so I figured I'd write this.

What you do makes me cry,
    But I honestly can't deny
That in my heart I truly love you
You'll always be my only dad.

Hi. I'm 13 and my dad left me 3 years ago. Since I'm a foster kid I go on visits with him but after Christmas he left. It hurts a lot but I hide it. I love your poem. Thank you.

  2. 62. How Can Fathers Just Go?

    • By Katheren
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2011

My father left my mum for another lady. Earlier that year he proposed to my mum to renew their wedding vows. Around 1 month later, she came home from work to hear he did not love her anymore. He is now living in another state. He has nothing to do with his daughters, me being one of them.

How could somebody be so cold
To leave their daughters all alone?
Without a father in their life,
To teach them how to ride their bike.

  3. 63. From The 12 Year Old Outcast

    • By Kenzie
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2008

This poem is about the struggles I face everyday with my seemingly perfect family.

My brother the A student/Perfect Athlete
    Beautiful wife and children
    Serving in the army
The one who calls me 'Kiddy'

  4. 64. I Don't Understand

    • By Michaela M.
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2011

I'm just one girl, but I'm sure there's hundreds going through the same thing...

    How are you Daddy?
It's been forever since we've spoken.
I guess we let this whole time pass,
    And now we're completely broken.

My father left when I was 5 I am now 13. He does not seem to care all of the pain he caused and this poem almost exactly describes my story. This was very touching and beautiful.

  5. 65. Restriction

    • By Lorena
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2018

The story behind my poem called "Restriction" is my journey as a teenager who struggles with an eating disorder. I'm currently in recovery and know how many other boys and girls out there go through this thinking that they're alone. I want them to know that they are never alone. And I also want everybody to know that we are our harshest judges. What we see in the mirror and cry about, most other people don't even notice. You all are perfect. Don't change!

When I was fifteen I starved myself,
hoping I could then accept myself,
but with all the weight I dropped,
    the burning self-hate never stopped.

  6. 66. Empty

    • By Hayley
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2011

I've struggled with self-injury, anorexia, bulimia, and have tried to commit suicide 11 times...this is what the void of depression feels like...

Her thoughts bob under the surface,
Her lost dreams circling around her in clouds.
    Every fake smile, fake laugh,
    Only feeds the emptiness inside.

  7. 67. Just Because...

    • By Melanie
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2017

Coming from an abusive family, life's not always easy, but somehow I keep a smile on my face and laugh for all it's worth. I try to turn to pen and paper. Sometimes that wasn't enough, and I've turned to a blade instead. People judge you for that, and they tend to not look past scars. Maybe they should. This poem is exactly that.

Just because I have a smile on my face,
It doesn't mean that I don't cry when I'm alone.
    Doesn't mean I don't have problems,
Doesn't mean I'm not dying inside.

  8. 68. Just One Question

    • By Lyss Smith
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2017

I am 16 years old, living in a household that seems of so perfect, but don't let your eyes fool you. I hear kids complain every day about having strict parents. I almost wish I did. I'd like to at least get a second glance from my mother. A little acknowledgement from the person I try so hard for, but it never comes.

    Don't let it fool you.
This smile isn't the real me.
    I don't understand why you don't care.
I was once everything you wanted me to be.

  10. 70. What Happened To You?

I wrote this poem shortly after losing one of my good friends to suicide. She was only sixteen. Just because someone is always smiling doesn't mean they're okay.

    The refreshing rain falls.
    The cold night passes.
    The soothing music plays.
    What happened to you?

  11. 71. Waiting For My Daddy

I dedicate this poem to those who have waited for their father to come home and were let down each time.

    I sat there and waited
    Never left the porch
    But you never showed
It's like you burned my heart with a torch

  12. 72. Masquerade

    • By David
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2016

This poem was made out of sorrow. I poured my heart out, and I hope you can relate to me.

People think that I have it all,
But they know nothing, nothing at all.
So now I laugh to hide my tears,
The tears that I gain from my fears.

  13. 73. Black Dove

    • By Ashley Dillon
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2015

This bird represents me in a world I don't feel welcome in. This is how I feel. This is me... :(

    There sat a black dove,
    dark as night,
    doing wrong,
    though knowing right.

  14. 74. A Place Where No One Likes To Be

    • By Joe Allen

If you have ever felt like this, just hang in there...it will get better..

So they save that little place for me
They shove me in and lock the door

  15. 75. When She Fades

    • By Robin Cleary
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2014

This is about a girl losing herself. She doesn't know who she is. She's fighting a battle.

    Hiding behind a dark veil,
The tears she cries are stark black.
Her body is marked with scars
    From the monster inside.

  16. 76. Have You Or Did You?

    • By Anonymous
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2011

This is my way of telling people not to judge anyone. You never know what a person has gone through or is going through. These are things that I've been through. Some I have dealt with and overcame and some I'm still dealing with.

Have you ever truly been by yourself, all alone?
Have you ever been left 3 months by yourself in a home?
Have you ever have to fend for yourself as a kid?
Have you ever had a parent leave their child like mine did?

  17. 77. I Am Dying Inside

    • By Sierra
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2012

I don't know what inspired me to write this poem. I was just writing my emotion.

My heart is hidden by happiness and pride,
But in reality I am dying inside.
Slowly my corpse keeps getting sicker
While all my emotions seem to do is flicker.

  19. 79. I Am Depression

    • By Laycee Stiles
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2008

I originally wrote this poem for a homework assignment, but then people started to comment on it. I wrote it because I used to be depressed and I used to cut myself. That was about two years ago. Ever since I wrote this poem, it has helped me to stop being depressed and to stop cutting.

    I am depression.
You know me for destroying people's lives.
My mother is the drugs you take to ease your pain.
My father is the pain you feel every day.
