From start to finish I wonder why
The cuts look good in this messed up lie
The blood that trickles down my arm
People all stare at the girl who self-harms.

This emotion runs deep,
Deeper than words can speak.
A burning sensation held deep inside her heart.
She knew she had to feel it some day from the start.

This emotion runs deep,

But now that she felt it, she thinks it will never let go.
Held deep inside her, you never see it; it will never show.
These feelings she held for so long.
Trapping herself in the dark, forgetting right or wrong.
Her heart cries when she thinks of this emotion.
Trying to tell this depression, yet she starts choking.

Feeling of having to hide who you are from other people because they won't understand the truth.

I try and try, but no one can see

That I'm hurt, that I'm broken,
That I'm not even me.

They think I'm fine
Because I tell them those lies.

I tell myself I'm okay,
But inside I want to cry.
No one understands,
So I will just keep quiet.

My words mean nothing.
They don't buy it.
I whisper, trying to be noticed,
But when I get their attention

And I am once again that bubbly girl
Everyone yearns to know.

I'm afraid that my feelings will scare them away,

Well I'm only 14 but have been through a lot that no one can see. Poetry is a way to express my true feelings. I shared with friends and family and they said I should try to publish them. So I typed this one up here and if I get good responses then I will post more. I have always loved poetry. It gives me a way I can share my true feelings. I lost a true loved one and this is about them and how I feel.

Fly Free As A Bird

It's amazing to me
How cruel love can be
To someone who has been through it all
Just to fall

Fly free as a morning bird

So they listen to love's words

I wrote this when I was feeling particularly dark and sad. I was inspired by the feelings that I acquired from the death of my dad. I hope you think it is good.

I look up into the clear sky.
The tears run like liquid crystals down my face.
Because of this, the angels cry,
Because I have this life to waste.

The frost and snowflakes bite me,
The beauty of their faces clear.
The loveliness is just to spite me,
And they run down, they turn to ice, my tears.

I see red all around me.
What is this, what is sounding?
Why does the blood run down from my eyes?
Is that why I did? Did I cry?

Through the window I see
I see your face, full of longing,
Fingers reaching out like a tree,
But we can never reach.

What is that I see in the mirror?
Is that I? In the reflection?
Why do I look like I am dead?
Because I am being cut apart, section by section...

Is this the time, or is it too late?
Should I choose to stay or choose to jump?
For living in a world with all this hate
Can make a person want to die.

I have feelings too, you know
I may always talk in monotone
But look more closely, for it is a mask.
The only reason that I do not tell...is not one cares enough to ask.

The fire in my heart,
It has long gone out.
The twists, the blood, the veins, they are like art.
Every heartbeat is just a shout, a shout, a shout.

I reach in the dark
I long for some light,
For what is the point of being
If you have to live in fright?

She would feel the ice creeping, growing in her chest
And soon, she knew, she would ever rest,
But there was one last thing she had to do.
She had to say goodbye, I love you too.

And then, the angels said,
The poor girl perished into the land of dead,
For all of it she could take no more,
And there she shall wait, forevermore.

I am 17 years old. I have been very sick for the last 7 years. I have something called NF1, it makes you very sick at times. I go to a lot of doctors, I have had brain surgery, I can't get out in the heat it makes me really sick. The bad thing about this is my older sister is 18 years old and she's has the same thing. She's always sick, but she loves to draw and can very well. We both are very sick, but the Lord blessed us with other things we can do. I write poems.....and she draws, and we both are living and have a great family...so what more could we ask for?

Staying Strong With Illness

I have this illness
that I've suffered from for so long
and I don't know how,
but I've got to find a way to stay strong,

This poem is an outline of the torture I went through in my junior high years. Depression led to eating disorders, and I soon came to a point where I considered suicide. But I found peace with therapy and family support. I am a lot better now and hope to inspire those who think that being perfect is everything. Just be yourself!

The image I face in the mirror shoots me with worried looks.
"Lose weight," a voice cold as a snake hisses.
The words rattle in my skull.

Fingers bully my belly
As they pinch and pull and grasp at my imperfections.
"Too much fat," they taunt.

I go down the stairs and the torture begins.
Evil eyes monitor my every move and thoughts.
My conscience screams, "Get a grip!" But it's too late.
I've done something wrong.

Guilt sweeps over my head.
Tears flow down my cheeks
Like a leaky faucet too damaged to be fixed.

I am a danger to my own body.
A normal girl enveloped within,
Sealed with fear, depression, restriction and control.

It is a challenge as punishable as the sheerest of cliffs.
I am its challenger, a free climber,
Stumbling with each move but still holding on.

No matter how badly the surface beneath me crumbles,
I will continue upward.
I will not quit until I overcome this mountain.

My name is Sarah Smith I'm a 17 year old female who has lived a very hard life...my poem is about my ex-boyfriend who was very abusive, but I was to in love, or you can say blinded by love....I just want all the viewers who read my poem to know, don't let anyone male or female control your life or abuse you....we did in fact break up, but it was very hard to do and I was terrified of this guy who I called my first love...I just want all the females to know that we are worth something, we are gold!!

but come to find out he's a thug,
selling and dealing is what he is best at,
now how are you going to get away from that?

But your stupid self goes back,
he seems like he changed,
but then he goes back to himself.

You sit and wonder why,
why you even try.

You go to leave, but he grabs you,

All you can do is pace,

I write for the school news paper, I had to submit a poem. I did this one and got into trouble. It's my past, past suicide attempts, my pain and hurt and being abused and drugs and all that. It's me. Hope you like it.

loved and cared for,
little girl,
had a good life,...

Little girl,

had a good life,
little girl was once happy,
at first,
little girl didn't believe the bullies,
but the death threats and names got to her,
her home was her only escape..
until it became just like her bullies,
she cried everyday,
no one saw her tears,
she screamed,
no one heard her,
she didn't eat,
no one noticed,
she hurt so bad,
she went to the knife..
which was so nice she went back
every night.
No one dared to care,
alone in this world.
Abused and used.
Drugs and drinking.
She dug into her arm
and hit the vein,
she let herself go..

A story of a child that was emotionally hurt hundreds of times and therefore became the horrible object/thing he is now. He no longer trusts people, he no longer wants people to communicate with him, he is just the shadow in the background.

My friend
Although your mind is corrupt with death and murder.
Even though your lungs are filled with tar and tobacco.
Even though your kidneys are strained with liter after liter of alcohol....

The child in you has gone, died out.

The object in it's place is neither man nor animal,
but the creature we were taught to fear.
As I look at you, the image goes obscured.
The ripples in the water make you indistinguishable.
