Seeing Ourselves Clearly
in Short Poems
It’s difficult to take in the entirety of something
when you are standing inside of it.

One should always keep an open mind when viewing the world around them, and what you say in your beautiful poem is so true, and other people often can see our inner beauty before we do. That...
Just tell me you don’t love me;
I can live with that.
I can acknowledge an ending when I see a period

You can be unhappy and still be in love.
You can be in love and still walk away.
You can walk away and still feel the weight of loss.
You can feel the weight of loss and still stand tall.

Lonely but looking inward.
Resting but planning your next step.
When you left,
I immediately deleted your number and pictures
and pulled our memories from the wall.
This is my strength.
When you cross my mind,
my stomach no longer crisscrosses itself.
When that song comes on,

I don’t need to be the sun;
the center of it all.
Always present.
Always burning.
