I just use a walking stick to seem stately and tall.

Nothing is wrong with my sense of smell.

My ears are fine if you don't whisper but yell.

The wrinkles are just laugh lines; they will go away.
It is fashion that has turned my hair from black to grey.

It's the cold, not age that is stiffening my knees.
I like to hum as I walk; it's not a wheeze.

What extra kilos? My scale is broken down.
If I try, I can still fit into my wedding gown.

My bones don't creak; my shoes are new.
My memory is sharp. Oh, do I know you?

Every year, as I watch you grow by my side,

Every year, as I watch you grow by my side,
No matter what you do, you are my source of pride.

The umbilical cord may have been cut, but you should know
You are still bound to my soul, wherever you go.

Sometimes I am firm and you may think I am wrong.
Remember it is easy to give in but tough to be strong.

Sometimes I am strict and you may think it is unfair,
But I correct you only because I love and care.

I harden my heart and nag, scold and fight
To teach you the difference between the wrong and the right.

For soon, the days will pass swiftly all in a whirl,
And into a woman will grow my baby girl.

Tomorrow when you need inner strength above all,
I hope my values will give you the courage to stand tall.

I hope that in my teaching you will find tips few
Soon when you strive to make your dreams come true.

At a later date, when the real world you have to face,
Today's lessons will help you go ahead in the race.

Some day in the future when a mother you will be,
From my point of view, the world you will see.

For your baby then you will do what is best
To blend discipline with kindness is every mom's test.

He said it would ease my life, that it was a new start.

Connect to internet, search for all you want to know.
No need for TV; on it, watch your favorite show.

It's time to throw out your ancient alarm clock.
You can shop for anything, from a ship to a sock.

You can find every address with the hi-tech map.
You can get rid of the wrinkles on your photo with an app.

You can pay your bills online with a single click.
You can order a meal, with just a finger-flick.

Now you can chat and tweet from your armchair.
Photos of your grandkids you can see and share.

You have the world at your fingertips now, said he,
But I struggle to make a simple call, Stupid Old Me!

I wanted to send a message to my oldest friend.
For dear, I typed dead and then pressed send.

I tried to watch a movie, but it made my eyes spin.
How to see those mini-figures on a tiny screen.

I tried to use the calculator; it took me an hour to find.
I could have added up the numbers faster in my mind.

Things get opened and switched on without my will.
I break into a sweat at the thought of my data bill.

Stop sending me "Good day texts" for goodness sake.
Those pings and rings give me a blasting headache.

So, for others, a smart phone may be trendy and hot.
For me, it's useless; as it's smart, but I am not.

Really a humorous poem. Before buying a smart phone, I also had similar doubts, but my daughter guided me. Still there are some elderly people known to me who refuse smart phones.

There are no monsters in this world

The second day her schoolwork was in a mess
Mom thought that she was being careless
She asked "What were you doing all day?
From the monster, I was trying to hide away
Mom said "This is so absurd!"
There are no monsters in this world

The third day Lily refused to go at all
Mom felt it was just a tantrum small
She threatened her with a beating
Lily replied "The monster may be waiting"
Mom said "This is so absurd!"

The fourth day, Lily complained of a stomach ache
Mom said please do not fake
She said I am tired of your repeated lies
Lily replied "The monster will make me cry"
Mom said "This is so absurd!"

The fifth day, Lily fell ill and took to her bed
Mom forced her to go to school instead
She ranted at her, asked her why
The monster will hurt me, I shall surely die
Mom said "This is so absurd!"

For this little girl, there was no sixth sunrise
For her new teacher was a monster in disguise
He caught her alone and took her life
After torturing her for hours with a knife
Monsters are real, the mom realized too late
If only she could have saved her baby from this fate

So listen to your child's stories really well
About her little anxieties they may tell
A sordid tale may be hidden in her tears,
Lend a patient ear to her innocent fears.
Pay attention to her words and understand
For her safety and security lie in your hands.

My husband and my little daughter share a special bond...they can communicate with each other through a glance, a touch and a smile.Our little angel relentlessly bullies her father but loves him and respects him above all others. You are her all time favourite...

Daddy's little girl

You are her all time favourite
That's what she always says
To you she tells her small secrets
And near you she always stays

She teases you, she plays pranks on you
She makes you obey her every call
She knows that she can twist you
All around her finger small

With you, she throws tantrums
Fights for your attention all the time
She makes you read a hundred stories
And listen to a thousand rhymes

When you are away on your tour
She feels forlorn and sad
Though she cannot express it in words
I know she misses her dad

Tears run down her little face
When I say you will be late
Like a puppy, for the sound of your knock
For you by the door, she will wait

She comes running when you come home
Covers your face with kisses sweet
With her laughter and her love
She makes your life complete

In her eyes, you are brave and strong
Her hero, her ally, her friend dear
The one she can really rely upon
Who will understand her every fear

You pick her up and make her sit
Upon your big warm knee
As she nuzzles against your cozy lap
Your heart fills with joy and glee

Your hands gently caress her cheek
As she lies on your chest
And you feel twelve feet tall
When she says she loves you best

When the thirsty earth is parched and bare
You shower her with the nectar of solace and care

When Nature is disrobed of her robes green
You adorn her in a gown of emerald sheen.
