Poetry by Ted L Glines

Ted L Glines has been writing since 1965, mostly rhyming verse and song lyrics, along with some free verse and prose. In the beginning years, most of his works were activist oriented and connected to the "freedom of speech" movement, with many poems published in college literary magazines and the "underground" free press (Village Voice, etc.). Having somewhat mellowed out in later years, Ted's works now lean more toward entertainment and humor.

Our Pilgrim forefathers did routinely observe thanksgiving, but it was a religious service that including singing and prayer. These Pilgrims were not experienced farmers. It was local Native Americans who introduced them to corn and squash, and who showed them how to fertilize the ground using fish heads. We owe our Thanksgiving holiday to their feast in 1621 which celebrated their first successful harvest.

Our soldiers know exactly what it is like to be serving so far away from home and thinking about you on Christmas Day (and every other day). Your letters and care packages mean so very much to them. Many of them are in Iraq and Afghanistan where life is waiting for the next gun shot or explosion. Many others are in support postings elsewhere. I have a friend serving in a German hospital where her patients are wounded soldiers from the war zones. She has a deep need to know that you care about her. They all do!

This poem relates a true sequence of events from my case files at HaltAbuse.org. Names changed to protect client's privacy. Chrissy is now enjoying a safe life with husband and children. Robert remains free but his predatory activities have been closed down. All is well.
