Christmas Now And Then

Well it is December and Christmas is almost here
Another happy Christmas for family and good cheer
There will be tables loaded with turkeys, hams and sweets
We know there will be more than we could ever eat

There will be a big tree shining so bright
With beautiful decorations and pretty shiny lights
Under that tree there will be present galore
So many you would wonder how there could be anything left in the store

Christmas now is really so much fun
But gosh there is just too much for everyone
My thoughts go back to a cold Christmas long ago
To a family not blessed with riches and gold

Our little tree was kind of skimpy, with some ribbons and a few shiny balls
But to us it stood magnificent, the greatest of them all
Under that tree was a present for Raye, a present for Sister and a present for me
And we could hardly wait as we would open them with glee

There was not a lot of fancy food on that table, times were kind of tough
But we were all happy and for us it was enough
We were so thankful as we thanked the Lord above
We knew what we had was paid for with Daddy's hard work and Mamas love

I'm thankful that we now have so much and our blessings are many
And it is good to live in this great land of plenty
But I would gladly give every material thing that I own
To have one more Christmas with Mama and Daddy and my two sisters at home

I found it very touching as I've got 2 parents still but as some people they don't have parents so they don't get very many presents. I hope everyone has a good Christmas and just be grateful for what you've got!! You may not have very many but still be grateful, times are very tough when it comes down to Christmas, I don't get to see my aunts and uncles a lot and I'm quite upset about it! But it's life so I've gotta deal with it....
Merry Christmas to everyone out there who reads it.!!

My parents are both gone but not forgotten. I miss them all the time but not as much as I miss them at Christmas time. I remember one Christmas when I was in grade school and my dad was unemployed. Our Christmas was very sparse but sure was a loving one. There was four of us kids between 5 & 9. When we woke that Christmas morning there were only four gifts under our tree. One for each of us and one for all four of us. The individual ones were either dresses for us girls or a shirt for the boys which was homemade. The one that was for all of us was a game box which contain several different games. When we opened that box of games we thought we had hit the jackpot and were the luckiest kids in the world. I would not trade a Christmas like that for the anyone of them today that is made up of so much hustle and bustle. A lot of families now are living so far apart that do not get to have such JOY as that on Christmas. Merry Christmas to everyone.
