Abuse Poem

After suffering years of abuse at the hands of my father, and being just a numb shell I finally discovered my creative side. I have started to write a non-fiction account of my life, but decided to try a poem as well.

Silent Tears Hidden From View

© Evieb
Hidden from view my silent tears flow freely
No one cares though as I hold Teddy dearly
This horrible pain has gone on far too long
I try to forget as I hum my own little song

I block out the sound with hands on my ears
I close my eyes and try to forget my fears
The screams are getting louder and louder
Soon it will be time I can stand it no longer

Anywhere would be better than here and now
If only I could move and escape another row
I’m seven and my heart feels broken in two
I love you daddy, but look what you do

Mummy’s covered in bruises from neck down to toe
As I try to help shield her, from yet another blow
I know when I look in your eyes you feel no regret
Because in a few more days she’ll forgive and forget

You know in your head me and mummy are good
Yet you make us feel dead with a mind full of mud
Your abuse daddy was such a terrible crime
It stripped me of innocence in such little time

What happened mummy, why did you stay
Nothing was funny and we both had to pay
Did you not stop to think about my future at all
I suffered with you and would eventually fall

Do you look at me now with my life such a mess
As I begin to love everyone around less and less
My insecurities get stronger day by day
And all I can do is sit on my bed and pray

I want to feel happiness and live life to the max
But it’s so hard when I have yet another relapse
I am nurtured to accept abuse from all men I meet
With the depression forever binding and in so deep

I’m told I have such big, brown and beautiful eyes
A window to the soul but who really sees my quiet cries
Another admirer repeats “What a great smile”
But they’re not clever and don’t know the fate of my trial.

Please listen to every word I’ve had to say
And don' take heed in the phrase "come what may"
By allowing your children to witness the above horror
You destroy their lives and leave them with no power.
