Father and Child Poem

A letter of love to a father away

Daddy Don't Cry

© April M. Alcocer
Daddy don’t cry,
because you were always there for me
I’ve cried many tears too,
that you couldn’t see
Daddy I love you,
keep those words close to your heart
I know you love me too,
even though we are apart
Daddy mommy loves you too,
though she doesn’t let it show
I have seen her sitting alone
and many tears flow
Daddy one day you will be back,
and we will be a family again
I have our last picture together
and stare at it till the day's end
Daddy, as you sleep,
have dreams of mommy and me
I have a smile on this little face
that I wish you could see
Daddy, my little arms are stretched out,
I know your arms are stretched out too,
So here is a big hug for you.

  • My little boy and girl were taken to another country by their mother. Sometimes the pain is hard to take and tears are flowing down my face. I find this poem very touching. I can just imagine how my son must feel at times and I wish that he doesn't miss me as much as I miss him because it hurts so much. God bless you my little boy and girl.

  • This really touched my heart because my mum and daddy broke up when I was 10 and now I live in the city with my little brother and mum, while my daddy lives in the country side with my big brother. I'm now 11 years old, and find this poem a really big part of my life. Thank you. I love you dad.

  • This poem really touched me as my partner is in prison and my child is without his father. The poem just sums up the way life is at the minute.. We all have to feel hurt so we can learn love!! X
