Aunt Poem

The author writes about her aunt. When she is around the whole world seems brighter.

My Auntie

© Brittany E. Dorn

My Auntie has a special gift
She knows just what to do
To make me happy all the time
And show she loves me too

At Christmas and Thanksgiving
She's the person I look for
She stays at my house overnight
But I want her to stay for more

I can tell when she's joking
By the twinkle in her eyes
She's the best at solving problems
She is patient and she's wise

She is so creative
With her poetry and crafts
And every time I'm with her
We have a lot of laughs

I will always admire my Auntie
For my whole life you see
Because even though I'm still a kid
She spends so much time with me

  • I love this poem; it also tells the story of my aunt. She became my surrogate mom when my own mother went to Heaven to receive her reward, and she's always been there for me. She was there when I needed a shoulder to cry on, or a voice of reason, and she was there during the darkest days of my illness, helping me when I couldn't help myself. Before she died, my mom charged my aunt with watching over me, and she is doing that well. I love my "Aunt Mom."

  • This reminds me of my aunt who took me in from foster care when I was 14. I thought she was great for doing that even though my mom didn't want me. Now she is working on getting my brothers back too.
