Grandfather Death Poem

I love my Grandpa with all my heart and will miss him so.

For My Grandpa

I know we are all feeling a little bit sad,
That we've lost our Grandpa, our friend and our dad
Together we have cried an ocean of tears
As we feel so empty and hold many fears

But Grandpa would want us to know he's in a good place
And that he watching us all with a smile on his face
As we have made him so proud, as proud as can be
That he has raised such a beautiful and special family

Thinking back now I really must say
I feel lucky and privileged to have known Grandpa to this day
For in my life, you have played a special part
The memories I will treasure and keep close to your heart

For me I am glad my little baby he got to meet
And for all of us, be grateful, his life is now complete
To each one of us he has loved and cared
And a family, be thankful for the good times we shared

Although he has gone we will always be together
And his spirit will live on each one of us forever
When you look to the sky, look for the brightest star
As that will be Grandpa looking down on us from afar

And now I would like to thank the good Lord above
For blessing us with our Grandpa with his kindness and love
Dear God, if it is not too much fuss
Take extra special care of our Grandpa as he is very dear to us

Grandpa if you are listening say a prayer for us every day
Be sure to protect us and guide us on our way
We know when God called you, you had to go
But we want you to know Grandpa we miss you and love you so

  • this poem is emotional and I love it! it reminded me of my grandpa , who I lost about 1 year ago :'(
    he dies so young ! I wanted him to be at my side when I got my side when I got married I wanted him to be at my wedding and to see my baby ! I am only 12 years old and he died when I was 11 , I really miss him and need him but I think god needs him more than I do ! I repeat nice poem and may your grandpa rest in piece

  • this story really touched me cuz I grew up with only one grandfather and the other one I never met but my mother always talked about him and told me and my sisters about him and I always wished to meet him so if I did meet him and he died later on in my life I would dedicate this to him

  • My Grandpa died less than a moth ago this whole poem is like perfect but the line about the baby because I am 12.. none of his grand babies had babies.. I sure miss him..

  • Thank you for this poem - I miss my grandpa so much, as do my children. my heart just aches . . . I loved him so much and miss him terribly, he has only been gone less than 4 months. My 30 years with him were just not enough . . . I have printed this out to keep and share with my young children. Thank you again

  • This poem made me think about my grandpa and I miss him soo much he passed away December 3 2009 . He was the best grandpa anybody could ask for and I wish he could have seen me get married or graduate . But he passed away doing he favorite thing . Hunting . He feel asleep in his deer stand and had a heart attack in his sleep :,( Rest In Piece :( I miss you and love you

  • This reminds me of my grandpa. He passed away about 6 months ago. I was pregnant and told him I was the night before we took him off the ventilator. Tomorrow is the one year anniversary of the day he got in his horrible car accident. It killed the other guy and then killed my grandpa in April. The day after mine and my bf's 1 year.

  • This poem made me cry, I lost my grandpa about 7 months ago, it was a very hard time and still is, I don't think I will ever get over losing him. He had lung cancer 3 times and this last time took his life. I was always very close to him, sometimes he could be as mean as anyone I've known, but he always had a awesome side. I just wish I could have said goodbye.

    Here is a poem for you for the sadness you had to go.

    My love for you will never end,
    For me you have been a special friend.
    Unfortunately you had to go,
    You fought your life from head to toe.
    Where you are is a better place for you,
    For sure we will always remember you.
    You're like another star in the sky shining bright,
    When you died it felt there was no light.
    Although you died we will never be apart,
    I will always love you from the bottom of my heart.
    You are just simply the best,
    With you there was no stress.
    I cried an ocean of tears,
    As I feel so empty with many fears.
    It was so hard saying goodbye,
    But sadly you had to die.
    Granddad your still the best,
    Never will my love for you get less

  • I lost my grandad on 19/2/2011 and have been looking for a poem to say how I feel at his funeral I saw this and it covers all things thank you for your inspiration, some times it can be hard to find the right words to say good bye.

  • I lost my grandfather May 9th 2010 when my dad called me told me that my grandfather passed away I was very upset because I was his only grandchild out of the whole family he was the best grandfather anyone can ask for me we went camping and fishing volleyball games we did everything with each other I know he is in a better place now one day I will see him again .

  • We are using this poem at my grandma's funeral this Thursday. I am 16 and I will be reading it out along with my cousin. I just hope I will be able to keep it together. My aunt came across this and chose me and my cousin it's a beautiful poem and touched everyone reading it :)

  • My grandad just died a few days ago, it was so hard just hearing from my dad when he came to pick me up from school that my grandad has just passed away. It felt like my head was about to explode of tears and fright and I couldn't get that fact that he had passed though my head. He died of pancreatic cancer the worst of all of them, he was a strong man....never drank, never smoked, ate healthy all the time and didn't do anything bad to deserve this. I loved my grandad like another father and I can understand how you all are feeling :(

  • I didn't even saw my grandpa, but I know only because of him I am here.... I wish I had seen him but he left me before I was born, today when I heard my friend's grandfather died, it reminded me of him so much and I miss him so much....   • I lost my grandfather on a day that to bring lots of love. My grandfather passed away on February 14th 2000, leaving a hole in my heart not because he was my grandfather but because he was so much more. He was my best friend and a father to me although he is gone from us on earth he will always be in my heart for ever! Love you always Grandpa Vern I hope you save a spot for me when it is my turn to go! For the mean time please keep looking down upon us like you have been for the last years.

  • My gramps just died a hour ago.. I never felt this sad before my real father cared more about getting drunk and high then his family. Gramps took over role as dad even after mom remarried he in my eyes was more a father figure to me than my real and step father. I know his suffering is over I just had so many promises to keep. A son he never met, a wedding coming I wanted him to witness. I'm sorry gramps. I'll make it up to you by raising my kids just as good as you raised me. Rest in peace. I love you and miss you. I'll never forget everything you gave and gave up for me.

  • I had been searching for the right words to say at my grandfathers funeral and while there are many great poems out there, this one touched me in a way none of the others did. I plan to edit it a little to better to reflect my family but thank you for giving me the inspiration I had been searching for.

  • This is so true my grandad passed last year December 3rd and I was 11, my grandad was like a second dad to me and this year has been really hard to me and my cousins all of our birthdays and fathers day today, first one without him for my mam and aunty. I really wish he was back with us but god only takes the best ones, anyways who ever wrote this is abs fabulous ! X

  • My grandfather past away on the 18th of June, from Mesothelioma - a rare type of lung cancer. I am only 15, so have found this such a hard thing to take in. This poem has brought great comfort to me, as it is so loving, caring and brought many tears to my eyes. Thank you.

  • My grandfather passed away on 19th of Feb 2012. He was a hero and a best friend anyone could ever had..:( I miss him a lot. He loved me the most of all his grandchildren because I am the eldest. I love him and miss him a lot.

  • My grandpa was like my best friend he came with us every holiday we went I miss him so much he died of cancer along with his wife and my gran who died when I was about 5 my grandpa died when I was about 10. I am now 11 years old and he was my pride and joy. His birthday is in 2 days and I am going to cry an ocean. Thank you for reading

  • Thank you ever so much for This touched my heart deeply and I had tears running down my face it was my granddads funeral yesterday and I've never cried soo much in my life! My granddads special to me because we have the same birthday :) I love him and miss him soo much, as I am fostered and only 13 I didn't get to see him much which was sad but life is life!   • I read this poem at my grandfathers funeral. It means a lot to me because it explains him so well. He was a great man. I love him and miss him so much but we have to keep in our mind that he isn't suffering anymore and he is watching over us.

  • This poem really touched me in so many ways I lost my grandpa just yesterday and it breaks my heart because he has always been there for me and my family and now that he is gone I don't know what to do but your poem is inspiring to me it let's me know that I'm not alone everyone has lost a special loved one in their life but you know what you got to do is just be happy for them because their life is over but with GOD their life has just begun so appreciate the times you've spent with them and remember them because no matter what they will ALWAYS BE THERE FOR YOU.......So thank you for the lovely touchable poem

  • I'm only 14 yeas old and my grandad just passed away yesterday. I remember him so much even though I haven't seen him for the last 5 years. My aunt called my mother and she just broke down crying and so did my grandma who just came 5 days ago from Bolivia. It's hard to see someone you love so much has gone. I used to yell at him. but regret it all. I didn't have the chance to say good bye to him but what hurts the most is that I never said to him that I loved him. We had so many good times together but I miss him so much. this poem made me cry cuz I won't be at his funeral since it's in Bolivia :( te querio papa arturo.

  • My grand dad was a veteran from the army. Patriotism, love, talent, honesty and caring where his middle names. He passed away on Christmas Eve of 2011 and I still feel each day as the first of his non being. A talented and passionate golfer, he was. He has won countless awards, and broken dozens of records. He married a woman who passed away shortly after the engagement and found another love. My role model is him and when other loved ones pass I will never miss them as much as I miss him.
