Hard Times Poem
The hardships of life can leave us tired and jaded but we can always bounce back with new found vigor.
When Daddy Went Away

When Daddy went away-
I saw my Mommy cry, the tears ran down her face, she looked like she would die.
When Daddy went away-
He filled his suitcase up, bent down to say goodbye but wouldn't pick me up.
When Daddy went away-
He walked out of the door and didn't turn around to look at us once more.
When Daddy came back home-
He showed us his new wife, he gave us all a hug and walked back in my life.
When Daddy came back home-
In boots, fatigues and might- he wisked my love away and gave a hopeful light.
When Daddy came back home-
None of us could see, the pain he felt for leaving us: My brother sister and me.
When Daddy went away again-
He was getting his life straight. Money, drugs and alcohol made him wake up late.
When Daddy went away again-
He left his second wife, he got away from drugs and stuff then married a new life.
When Daddy went away again-
He found what he had lost; his heart, his soul, his youthfulness; that once I thought he'd tossed.
When Daddy came back home again-
He took us out to play. He laughed, he loved, he smiled again every July day.
When Daddy came back home again-
In boots, fatigues and heart. He showed us he was always there and that he'd never part.
When Daddy went away once more-
It wasn't by his choice. The country told him now to go and that he had no voice.
When Daddy went away once more-
I'm the one who cried, my life had finally been so good and I thought to me he lied.
When Daddy went away once more-
I'm glad he wasn't hurt, with bombs and bullets everywhere he ran and "hit the dirt."
When Daddy came back home once more-
He held my half grown hand. Though ever tired and very worn, because of him I'll stand.
Now I'm the one who's gone away-
And left his life so void, I'm growing up and he can't see it's nothing to avoid.
Now I'm the one who's gone away-
And made my Mommy cry. Her first born child's a big girl now and thinks she'll never die.
Now I'm the one who
