in Husband Death Poems
I left a simple rose today.
I laid it down upon your grave.
Then memories came rushing - from the past,
of our lives together; we said it would last.
I left a simple rose today.
I laid it down upon your grave.
Then memories came rushing - from the past,
of our lives together; we said it would last.
I remember the time, hand in hand, we ran
through the tall grasses and warm sand.
We laughed at all of your jokes and stories.
The way you told them it was never boring.
Although it's been a year today,
my heart is sad - it won't betray.
It seems like time has been delayed -
the long cold nights and the gloomy days.
I thank God for the time we had.
My life with you was never bad.
I pray for a new dawn and sunny days,
as I stand here beside your grave.
