Why is a garden snail so slow?
Has he no place to go?
With his house upon his back-
he doesn't even need, to pack!

A mother is someone who cares,
    Someone who will readily share.
Who tries to bandage up cut knees,
Who likes to give and to please.

  • Eighty Seven.

I have a mother, who is 87 soon.I wondered what it was like to be so old...written from the perspective of a Grandchild. They would think all sorts of things about old age...the things I mention in this poem.

Gran- what is it like to be so old?
This, may I ask and to be so bold!
Do you ache and pain like me,
or do you still feel lively, energetic, free...?

This is a poem written especially for my mum, who was always there for us in times of need. Now she has alzheimers, and is not the same person. It brought tears to my eyes when I remembered how she used to be and I wanted to remember how she was.

Mum, thank you for all the little things you did,
down on earth, for us all.
    The things, we never saw.
The things mum's really are for...

    After the snowfall.

The snow flakes fall like soft, downy feathers from the sky.
Soon it drifts and piles up, as I look outside.

  • Spring Heralds.

This poem is about the Daffodil flowers- Lenten Lillies, which are the heralds of Spring.A splash of yellow in the countryside, and towns can cheer us all up considerably, as we look forward to warmer and lighter days.. The dark days of Winter have passed, although still lingering on with some days, yielding rain and wind.

    in Flower Poems

Like a golden fanfare of trumpets, they herald entrance of Spring.
Appearing on warmer days, when happier the birds fly and sing....
As yellow as the gold sun, that shines, they sway in the breeze,
Daisies, Buttercups cannot compete, attracting passing bumble bees.

This poem is about relationship, which has gone sour and the aftermath of feelings, afterwards. The feelings are of abandonment, loneliness, sadness, when one of the pair, misses their partners touch and personality. We have all experienced these emotions, at some time along our way, during our lives.I am sure you will identify with this poem.

All I wanted was to be loved by you,
but instead you told me, you and I were through...
How I longed for that tender, special kiss,
It's like being without sun, your warmth I miss.

  • What Do You Think?

This poem is about the sadness, that exists in our world, when we see certain images and pictures of people or animals suffering, from hunger, neglect, addiction or poverty. Are we affected by these things, or do we turn a blind eye, to the neglect and cruelty? The pandemic, highlighted these sufferings and brought it to our attention. We see it everywhere, on television, commercial breaks and sometimes, in our every day travels.Charities are begging out for money, to deal with these issues.

    in Poems about Sadness

    Tell me,
what do you think, when you look into the sad, pleading eyes,
of those who go hungry and cold?
What do you think, when you look at the man shuffling about in the street,
