Take me back
To the last century
Before we relied
On technology
When the cool blades of grass
Pressed under our feet
Running fast through the sprinkler
With the kids down the street
Playing till dusk in the sun
When the days still felt real
Memories were captured
By the joy we would feel
Take me back to the good old days
When we got our first VCR
Renting movies at the Blockbuster
Then racing my brother back to the car
Riding my big wheel
Down too steep a street
Crashing at the bottom
Scraped up knees from concrete
Sleepovers at grandma's
With my brother or just me
Drinking warm cocoa with marshmallows
While watching The Love Boat on TV
No cell phones in hand
Or devices of any kind
Stealing our human connection
And hypnotizing our mind
I can remember the vibrant color
Of a beautiful clear blue sky
Talking about what we'd see
In puffy clouds passing by
When are we going to get there
We'd impatiently say on the drive
Remembering life in the last century
Feels like remembering being alive
Cherishing Memories
The Last Century
