  1. 61. Allow Me To Dream

    • By Jeff Mynatt
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2017

I'm retired military who spent 32 years preparing and actively participating in wars. I just have to believe in my heart that there are worlds beyond our own were beings exist in peace. This poem came to me while I was standing alert in Kuwait while gazing at the multitude of stars shinning above me.

As I look across a field of green,
    I dream.
I look to the stars and wonder just how far,
    and I dream.

This is beautiful. I share your dream even though these days I sometimes feel very naive. Are we moving farther and farther away from being able to get along with each other?

  2. 62. What Are Heavy?

Christina Rossetti reflects on things that are heavy, brief, frail, and deep. She shares both concrete items and metaphorical ones, whether it’s a state of mind or moment in time. It’s a poem that makes the reader reflect on the meaning of life.

    What are heavy? Sea-sand and sorrow;
    What are brief? Today and tomorrow;
    What are frail? Spring blossoms and youth;
What are deep? The ocean and truth.

It’s pure perfection, this poem. It couldn't have been said any better and yet be any more poetic and precise. Beautiful. This poem shall stand the test of time, For it's got so much...

  3. 63. My Life

    • By Kimberly L. Mixon
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2016

My life really hasn't been easy, and when it gets bad, I love to write my feelings down and transform them into poetry. Hope I can help uplift someone today.

    My life hasn't been great,
    But I've made it through.
    My life hasn't been easy,
But God said, "I've got you."

  5. 65. The Butterfly

I am constantly amazed by the simple beauty of all that is around us. All we need to do is to sit and be aware of the simple gifts of nature.

The butterfly is a thing to behold,
with colors more beautiful than gold.

    Flying hour by hour,

  6. 66. This Is Who I Am

    • By Megan R. Bentz
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems August 2016

I wrote this poem for my history class, and it expresses who I am in a way but also gives the reader a chance to see who they think they are.

    This is who I am:
    I am a fighter.
I have a lot of baggage from my past.
I may have some experience and some wisdom,

  7. 67. Smile, Rainbow, A Helping Hand

    • By Michelle Ebel
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems August 2016

Everyone has their days when they just need to be themselves.

At times we need a little smile
or a rainbow big and bright.
At times we need a helping hand
to help us make things right.

    • By McKenna L. Martin
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2016

My poem is about fireworks on the Fourth of July. I wrote this poem because I love this holiday.

    Flying fireworks
    In the air,
    Soaring like rockets,
    Everyone stares.

  9. 69. Secrets Under Trees

Everyone has lies and hurtful secrets they wish to bury, actions they regret and things they want to change. This short poem is about learning to appreciate everything a person has to offer and not just dwelling on their past mistakes.

    Tiny little secrets
    Get buried in the dirt,
And if they were dug up,
    Someone would probably get hurt,

  10. 70. Childhood

    • By Aniket Jangam
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016

While going through hectic times for a couple of years, my little mind lingered to the innocent, ecstatic days of my childhood, which provoked me to write up this short poem and many others like it about life, the changing times, the changing people, and the way it all affects us! I would love to be able to live our old days yet again and do the things we missed out in the past!

Going back to the time, doing all that I want,
Just living up my life, getting all that I can't!

Great was the childhood, innocent were the smiles.

  11. 71. Camouflaged

    • By Kim McCrea
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2016

I just write from the heart. Through events in my life, I find putting pen to paper is a great healer.

In all chaotic beauty lies a wounded work of art.
Beautiful but torn, wreaking havoc on my heart.
Camouflaged by insecurities, blinded by it all.
I love the way you sit there and barely notice me at all.

With death being the only certainty of life, life is just a bit too short for regrets. Let's live while we're alive. Let's love while we're alive. Let's live and not just survive.

    • By Marijke Theart
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2016

I am a South African girl, and I have been writing poems for 5 years now.

Those who judge are the ones who hurt the most.
Those who preach are the ones who got preached at the hardest.
Those who want to know everything are the ones who know the least.
Those who have anger are the ones who really do care.

  13. 73. Memories

    • By Jane Kim
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2015

This poem is about all our memories being there for us when we want to remember.

Memories in my life fade away
As I replace them with others.
They are forgotten and stored away.
Although the memories are pushed to the side,

  14. 74. To Ashes

    • By Robert Durdle
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2015

This is a poem I wrote at a very young age when I was "green" and full of imagination.

    Life is like a fire.
If you can't control your flame,
    You're bound to be burned.

  16. 76. A Teacher

A teacher is like a candle that burns itself to light the world of others, the one who builds the pillars of a nation, so we should respect teachers.

A teacher introduces us to a new vision of life,
to make us as sharp as a knife.

Someone who gives us a new sight,

  20. 80. Forever

    • By Terri Nicole Tharrington
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2012

My name is Terri Nicole Tharrington. I am in the US NAVY and I have been writing poems since I was 14 years old. I want to get out of the military and major in writing but I am not sure how far it is going to get me. My poems started off depressing because of all of the complications and hurdles I faced growing up as a kid, but being around positive attitudes and finally believing in myself has gotten me a long way. Thanks for reading! Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Forever we remain oblivious to the future,
lost to the past and enduring our torture.
Forever we take chances to settle our scores,
losing some battles and winning some wars.
