Broken Friendship Poem

Poem About My Friend And Her Struggle With Depression

Years ago, the only meaningful friend I had committed suicide. This poem is dedicated to her.

My friend is suffering from mild depression, but it's getting worse quickly. It's hard to figure out a way to let her know she's loved. She's just so scared all the time. This touched me.

Once A Friend

Empty laughter
Broken feelings
Inner torture
Sorrowed breathing

Withhold emotion
Force the smile
Your inner strength
Worn and tired

The tale of a soul
That's withered away
With no more control
Everything's gone astray

Whose tried so hard but has not gained
With a long, hard road to only a bitter end
A deep, conflicted, suffering pain
And this harrowing tragedy, was once a friend

My friend.

Wow, your poem seriously touched me. I lost my best friend to mental illness in June. This poem was word-for-word a perfect fit. I'm sorry for your loss. Sadly I can imagine what you're going through. I also just want my best friend back!

Your sensitive words truly show your absolute understanding of what your friend was experiencing. You must have been the best of friends for you to have such an insight into depression and the painful ramifications, that, no matter how hard you try, it never leaves you. Depression at it's worse, we who suffer from this evil, constant invasion of our thoughts and our souls, would freely trade a limb just to be rid of the utter sadness, that is overwhelming and consuming our days, and nights. We do eventually become so tired, and absolutely worn out, from the battle of just trying to get through one day at a time. Your dear friend was so fortunate to have a friend like you.
