Friendship Poems about True Friends

What is a true friend? A true friend says what they think their friend needs to hear even when they know that their friend may get angry. A true friend doesn't leave because they are afraid to be with you. A true friend doesn't leave when the fun stops and things get uncomfortable. These are just of few of the values that real friends hold dear. In short, A true friend recognizes the value of the friendship and holds it sacred.

37 True Friend Poems for Committed Friendships

  1. 1. My True Friend

A true friend is a rare gem, and I'm blessed with one - the inspiration for this poem. If you also have that special friend, I hope this helps you celebrate him/her. You may hum the good old "My Mother" tune as you read. Hope you enjoy it.

    Pricelessness Of A True Friend

You always answer when I call
And help me up if I should fall,
But you never complain at all,
    My true friend.

You confront me when I am wrong
But will never scold me for long,
Instead, you try to keep me strong,
    My true friend.

You know the funny things to say
To make me laugh my fears away.
Like the sun, you brighten my day,
    My true friend.

You see in me gifts I deny
And urge me to give things a try.
You spread for me my wings to fly,
    My true friend.

You always perceive what I need
And offer it before I plead.
Just like a book, my mind you read,
    My true friend.

You value little things I do
But won't brag of what you do too.
How can I ever repay you,
    My true friend?

And greatest of all I have found
When times are tough and I'm down,
You are the one who sticks around,
    My true friend.

  3. 2. A True Friend

    • By Nicole
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2007

The poet tells about the forming of a close friendship.

Before you became a friend of mine,
We knew each other for quite some time.
I hate to say we wasted a year and a half.
I'm glad we can now look back and laugh.

It's funny how things turned out.
I wish I could say I never had a doubt.
Truth is, I'm proud to say
You and I have come a long, long way.

You touch the lives of people you know.
You walk around with a humble glow.
You've been a best friend to me,
One that will last an eternity.

I know my secrets you will keep.
On your shoulder I can weep.
You always listen and never judge me,
    Always understand so objectively.

You light up a room when you walk in.
I'm so fortunate that my friend you've been.
You are the epitome of a best friend, a true ten.
I wish I had known that way back then.

Words can't convey what you mean.
A better friend I have yet seen.
You confide in me, and I in you.
You are a friend who's completely true.

I never thought we'd be friends like this.
A lifetime of this we almost missed.
I'm blessed things have turned out this way.
I thank God for you every day.

I'm thankful it was not too late.
My friendship with you was well worth the wait.
I love you for all that you are.
There's no better friend by far.

  5. 3. A Friend Found In Music

I always go to music when I feel blue, so I decided to write a poem about music; it never fails to cheer me up.

Poem About Music Always Being There For Us

    Music is the ocean
That pulls me to the shore.
    Music is the rhythm
That moves me to the core.
    Music is the therapy
I need when I feel blue.
    Music lifts my spirits
To make sure I pull through.
The times when I'm most cheerful,
    It's clear music was there.
    Music is the needed friend
When no one seems to care.

  6. 4. What Friendship Means

    • By Tracie Labauve
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2007

I wrote this poem when my friend and I were having problems...and the only way I could get my feelings out was to write this poem.

Friendship means being there just to be there.
Friendship means listening and not asking questions.
Friendship means lending your shoulder for someone to cry on.
Friendship means being comfortable around each other in silence.
Friendship means being able to tell each other anything and understanding without questions.
Friendship means being honest with each other no matter what the cost.
Friendship means staying up all night and talking about nothing.
Friendship means being able to say I love you!
Friendship means forgiving each other no matter what you have done.
Friendship means learning from each other's mistakes.
    Friendship means me and you.
This is the way I look at you, my friend, and I love you!

  7. 5. A Friend In Need Is A Friend Indeed

    • By Bea Williams
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2011

I've always felt that true friendship is very important. The old saying, "A friend in need is a friend indeed," goes a long way. True friends will always be there for you, and you can always count on them, so my favorite thing to write about is friendship.

Friends are far, friends are near.
Friends will be there to lend an ear.
    They listen, laugh, and care,
But most of all, they're always there.

Through thick and thin, up and down,
Your true friends are always around.
For treats, hugs, and real big smiles,
They'll travel to you from several miles.

They'll always be there to hold you tight.
Anytime, no matter if it's day or night.
You really know when your friends are sincere
When they always show up to lend their ear.

  8. 6. Ode To Friendships

    • By Kayla Rae Pich
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2015

I'm a 14-year-old girl living in Alberta, Canada. This poem was written on a day when I was reminiscing on memories of my friends. They were both unsure of the schools they were going to attend in grade 10, and this had torn me apart. Just the thought of not seeing them every day in the morning hallways was an unimaginable idea because things just don't work like that! My poem shows my immense appreciation that I have for these two amazing people in my life, and I feel that it describes our relationship perfectly.

    Poem About Qualities Of Friendships

    Friends...
They're the few people who accept silence over conversation.
A relationship like this denies silly promises and persuasion.
You don't feel the need to second guess thoughts or measure words.
Their love comes in wholes, not halves, not thirds.
They're the ones that guide you through when fate takes a turn.
Fights, small and large, end in forgiveness, never a burn.
You forget about first impressions and the feelings they brought.
You're grateful for who they are and you forgive 'em for what they're not.

    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2015

This poem describes my relationships with my friends (true friends that is): how they're always there for me and love me no matter what.

    Qualities Of True Friends

True friends are by your side through it all.
True friends are there to catch you when you fall.
True friends give your life a happy lift.
True friends are a most precious gift.

True friends will care about you forever.
True friends want to be with you on every endeavor.
True friends can make you laugh and cry.
True friends can be girls or guys.

True friends can get mad at each other.
True friends can be your sisters or brothers.
True friends will never truly leave you.
True friends will love you no matter what you do.

True friends really know you but love you anyway.
True friends are those who are always asking you if you're okay.
True friends know that hate is a very strong word.
True friends don't believe every story they've heard.

True friends will tell you the truth, even if it's not what you want to hear.
True friends are always there with a hug and a listening ear.
True friends will tell you things that are true.
True friends will do anything they can to help you.

True friends love to spend time with you.
True friends love to tease you too.
True friends tease all in good fun.
True friends don't care if you've lost or won.

I will love you forever, my friend.
I will stay by your side until the very end.
You'll be in my heart, as I pray for you each day.
You are my truest friend in every way.

  10. 8. Love & Friendship

    • By Carolyn A. Davis
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

When love and friendship coincide, this is truly a blessed event.

You're the one I most admire
with great intentions and loving desires.

Passion and trust and knowing that you care
brings a lifetime of happiness for us to share.

Being so gentle, understanding, and kind
brings comfort, faith, and a joy that shines.

Tears and laughter are feelings that are rare,
but a true heart shall never despair.

Love is unique in its very own way,
taking risks, and challenges day by day.

But when a heart is made of gold, there is so much to share,
like joy, laughter, and a friendship that's there...

So I give you my heart as a token of love,
from one friend to another and the heavens above.

So take my heart and cherish it too,
'cause there is no us without you!

  11. 9. Count On Me, My Friend

This poem is dedicated to all my friends. They are all different kinds, but all are close to my heart.

    An Assurance To My Friends

When the world weighs you down
When unfavorable situations make you frown
    Count on me, my friend

When the world gives you trouble
When your agonies seem to have doubled
    Count on me, my friend

When everything around is a mess
When you can't handle so much stress
    Count on me, my friend

When everything seems to fall apart
When someone has broken your heart
    Count on me, my friend

When you need someone to hug you tight
When you need someone to say, "Everything will be all right,"
    Count on me, my friend

  12. 10. A Time To Talk

This poem is about the value of friendship and priorities. Even while working, take the time to chat with your friend; the work will still be there when you come back. Friends and family are what's important in life.

When a friend calls to me from the road
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don't stand still and look around
On all the hills I haven't hoed,
And shout from where I am, 'What is it?'
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground,
Blade-end up and five feet tall,
And plod: I go up to the stone wall
    For a friendly visit.

  14. 12. True And Genuine

This poem is about my best friend and me. We have such a tight friendship that sometimes it scares me. I just wanted to express to everybody that when you have a good friend, HOLD ON TO THEM. It is very important to have friendships in your life, whether you have few or many. There will always be those who want to bring you down, but your TRUE and GENUINE friends will be there to pick you up and will always be around. I hope you enjoy it.

Poem About True Friends Always Being Around

    True and genuine
    You will always be.
You will always remain a true friend to me.
    When times are bad,
    You're there to understand.
That's how I know that you are
    True and genuine.
    We cry,
    We laugh,
    We share all our fears.
Nothing can come between us because you are always near.
    True and genuine,
    Yes, that is you.
The look in your eye is what makes you so true.
Genuine you are because you will always be there.
I've looked for the flaws, and I find none there.
    How we came to be
Was much a surprise to me,
But the fact that we're inseparable is what matters to me.
    True and genuine
    You will always be.
You will always remain a true friend to me.

I wrote this for my best friend. He's been with me through so many years, and there's no one I've ever met like him. He's done so much for me, and I wrote this for him to show how much he means to me. He's my crazy boy, and I couldn't imagine my life without him in it!

Good Friends Are Hard To Find

A friend like you is hard to find,
And that you're here still blows my mind.
You're kind and caring, funny and smart.
By just being you, you've stolen my heart.

From the first time we met,
    Until here where we stand,
    You've made my life perfect,
    You've made my life grand.

    You encourage me
    When I am down.
    You make me smile
    When I frown.

    You make me laugh
    When I want to cry.
    You make me happy
    When you don't even try.

    You love the Lord.
    'Tis rare but true.
    I'm blessed beyond measure
To have a friend like you.

    Yes, a friend like you
    Is hard to find,
    And I can't hardly believe
That you chose to be mine

Poem About Walking Alongside Someone In Life

    Why don't you come
    walk with me
    through life's doorways
    and heaven's eternity?

    Walk through the good
    and walk through the bad.
    Walk through the happy
    and walk through the sad.

    Take my hand;
    I'll show you the way.
    There are so many things
    we can do today.

    Whether it be happy,
    or whether it be sad,
    my friend, I'll help you
through all things good and bad.

    Dedicated to Stacey

    The past you cannot forget or undo;
The future is all we can look forward to.

I wish I could have been there by your side
For all the times you've wept and cried.

Know from my heart what I say is true.
That I hurt for the pain you have been through.

    Having Someone By Your Side

    called comfort.

When your body shrieks in pain,
I will give you my cane,
    called help.

When your mind is a mess,
    I will show you progress,
    called hope.

    When you just
    need a shoulder
    to rest
    your tired head,

    and before
    you can speak,
    I'll say,

    "I'm coming."

  20. 18. A Friend Can Save A Life

    • By Paige Bryant
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2015

I've lost people in my life because of suicide. The more I think about it, the more I think it's partially my fault for not being a good friend when they needed one.

Poem About A Friend Making A Difference

    That girl's heart aches,
    Her smile is fake.
    The cuts sting,
    Her phone rings.
    She ignores
    And thinks life's a bore.
    But she doesn't know
    There are people who care.
    She doesn't know
    That they've always been there.
She's tired of being joked at school.
She's tired of being called a fool.
She's ready to pull out the knife,
    Ready to end her life.
    There she sits alone crying,
Wondering about if she were dying.
"Would they even notice I was gone?"
Or would they just carry on?"
    As she lures the knife,
    She hears a strange sound.
    She hides the blade
    As her heart pounds.
    She walks out the door.
    There's her best friend
    Trying to get in.
As her friend cried, she heard her say,
    "Thank God you're okay!"

But I'm happiest when I'm with you.

God bless you and keep you
    In His tender care.
May His face shine upon you

    Describing A True Friend

If you told me to describe a true friend,
I'd describe you in a heartbeat.
If you wanted to know how unique you are,
I'd tell you no one could ever make a repeat.
If you say you needed a friend like me,
    Then I'd never say goodbye.
If someone tried to put you down,
I'd tell you how they're full of lies.
If you wondered what beauty looked like,
I'd tell you to look at your reflection.
And if you asked me what I thought I saw,
    I'd say I saw perfection.
