Learning To Choose Peace

Lately I've been seeing the division in this country and in friendships and families. Realizing just how much I don't fall into any particular category, I stand alone mostly not taking up arms on either side. I see the weapons of warfare so discreetly ripping relationships apart because of simple views getting blown out of proportion. All being fed to the masses through media outlets and algorithms. This poem just dropped in my spirit as I was watching TV tonight.

The Dove

Walking along
A war torn street
Angry faces and glances
When our eyes would meet

Feeling their fire
Searing pain in my heart
Caused by an enemy
Designed to tear nations apart

I gasped for air
As I closed my eyes
Falling into a dream
Escaping this worlds lies

Fleeing the heat
I chose to be a bird
Rising up from the ashes
Anger could no longer be heard

The higher I flew
Dancing in the clouds
Looking back at the earth
I could see souls in the crowds

Attached to the bodies
Souls glimmering as mist
Sparkled like diamonds
With golden halos sunkissed

Not believing my eyes
The crowds couldn't feel peace
The division between heart and soul
Continued to increase

Algorithms as weapons
Politicians and the news
Carefully constructing warfare
Through opposing views

Innocent souls
Burdened by hate
Never realizing the agenda
Controlling their fate

All at once through the clouds
Salvation raining down
Eyes suddenly opened
In every nation
Every town

Souls and bodies
Now gently aligned
Weapons of warfare
No longer taunting their mind

This is peace
Wrapped in mercy and love
The simple truth
That comes from above

Awakened from the dream
I smiled at the Dove
