  1. 61. Childhood

    • By Aniket Jangam
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016

While going through hectic times for a couple of years, my little mind lingered to the innocent, ecstatic days of my childhood, which provoked me to write up this short poem and many others like it about life, the changing times, the changing people, and the way it all affects us! I would love to be able to live our old days yet again and do the things we missed out in the past!

Going back to the time, doing all that I want,
Just living up my life, getting all that I can't!

Great was the childhood, innocent were the smiles.

  2. 62. To Ashes

    • By Robert Durdle
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2015

This is a poem I wrote at a very young age when I was "green" and full of imagination.

    Life is like a fire.
If you can't control your flame,
    You're bound to be burned.

  3. 63. Wishes

Wishing my family the best for the Christmas and giving Christmas wishes.

The orange glow of the fireplace
fills the room with Christmas cheer.
To my family I raise my glass,
full of wishes for the year.

  4. 64. Memories

    • By Carley.Ruggles
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems June 2011

I wrote this remembering that my father and grandfather both sexually abused me, and I realized that I could move on.

    Memories, memories
    I have had.
Some were good, though most were bad.
    Physical and sexual abuse occurred

Thank you. What a powerful, moving poem. I truly hope you have grown to become who you dreamed you could be. There is plenty of beauty left in the world for us all to find and time to create...

  5. 65. Let Love Go

    • By Kerry P. Howland
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2017

I wrote this poem with the intention of letting go of someone I love deeply who no longer claims to love me.

    His love for you,
    he cannot show.
    For this alone,
    just let him go.

Very effective solution to mental peace has been given just in four lines. But it is easier said than done.

  6. 66. The Butterfly

I am constantly amazed by the simple beauty of all that is around us. All we need to do is to sit and be aware of the simple gifts of nature.

The butterfly is a thing to behold,
with colors more beautiful than gold.

    Flying hour by hour,

You are so right!! I live in the country, where nature is so obvious around us. We need to take time to smell the roses. It's a beautiful feeling.

This poem speaks to me. I really like it. We spend so much of our time focusing on things that really don't make life better and we miss out on many of the things that do.

  8. 68. I Don't Like

    • By Sally.F
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2009

I'm not a very hateful person, but I had to write an "I don't like" poem for school.

I don't like poachers and animal harmers,
Like Japanese whalers and fox shooting farmers.
I don't like people who waste and litter,
Bully and hurt or speak very bitter.

From Beau's book Here At Dawn: Poetry and Prose.

if your path has not been made clear to you yet.

    courageous in action,

  10. 70. July 4th

    • By McKenna L. Martin
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2016

My poem is about fireworks on the Fourth of July. I wrote this poem because I love this holiday.

    Flying fireworks
    In the air,
    Soaring like rockets,
    Everyone stares.

  12. 72. Better Will Come

It is so important to always hold on to hope. You owe it to yourself, and by holding on to hope you are allowing things to unfold in such a way that you are more likely to come across brighter days.

    Have faith
    that although it may seem
like the good has come and gone,
    there will be better.

  13. 73. Love Is Better Than Hate

    • By Poppy Cooke
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2009

This short poem personally tells me that life needs living to the fullest! I wrote this poem because of how I feel so strongly about people wasting their lives away when they have so much more they could be doing with their lives.

Don't judge a book by its cover.
    Love is better than hate.

Life's too short to waste opportunities

  14. 74. A Fallen Leaf

When we are new to love, sometimes we fall too quickly and allow ourselves to be put in situations we end up regretting. Everything changes after that. Ella Wheeler Wilcox (1850-1919) was an American author and poet who became known as a poet even before graduating high school.

A trusting little leaf of green,
    A bold audacious frost;
A rendezvous, a kiss or two,
    And youth for ever lost.

  15. 75. This Is Who I Am

    • By Megan R. Bentz
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems August 2016

I wrote this poem for my history class, and it expresses who I am in a way but also gives the reader a chance to see who they think they are.

    This is who I am:
    I am a fighter.
I have a lot of baggage from my past.
I may have some experience and some wisdom,

  16. 76. The Healing Power Of Mother Nature

The weight of life is much too heavy for us all at times. I’ve found nature to be one of the best healers for anxiety.

    maybe the answer is simple,

  19. 79. There Is An End To This

I’ve struggled with my mental health for a long time now, and like anything, there are good days and bad days. But even at my lowest points, I try and remember the things I have already survived. I try and remind myself that every cracking sinew is just a moment in time.

Ultimately, no matter how desperate I’ve felt, no matter how unsurvivable the breakdown may seem, the surface of the water is always reachable, eventually. Sometimes you just need to hold your breath a little longer.

    There is
    an end to this,
    I promise you.
    Even when
