  1. 41. Tribute To Dale Earnhardt Sr.

I was in the Air Force and deployed to the Middle East the day Dale Earnhardt crashed. We were lucky enough to have a TV to see the race. Later that night, I sat in my bunk and wrote this for him.

I have built this machine with bleeding hands.
I have shaped it to slice the wind.
I have shined it with polish and sweat.
I have balanced it with feel

  3. 43. I Love To Breathe In

I lost my sense of smell when I got Covid, which made me appreciate my favourite scents much more when my sense of smell returned.

    Homely aromas
    of freshly baked bread.
    Scents of the garden
    infused in my head.

  4. 44. In Heaven

    • By Jo
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2007

A very close friend of mine has recently taken his life. This poem is something I wrote for his mother who I have grown up with, or should I say, watched me grow up.

    Up in heaven,
    They have someone new

    At those gates,

  6. 46. Life Isn't Black And White

You can be unhappy and still be in love.
You can be in love and still walk away.
You can walk away and still feel the weight of loss.
You can feel the weight of loss and still stand tall.

  8. 48. Allow Me To Dream

    • By Jeff Mynatt
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2017

I'm retired military who spent 32 years preparing and actively participating in wars. I just have to believe in my heart that there are worlds beyond our own were beings exist in peace. This poem came to me while I was standing alert in Kuwait while gazing at the multitude of stars shinning above me.

As I look across a field of green,
    I dream.
I look to the stars and wonder just how far,
    and I dream.

This is beautiful. I share your dream even though these days I sometimes feel very naive. Are we moving farther and farther away from being able to get along with each other?

  10. 50. Underface

Children, teenagers, and adults as well, can all identify with the message of this poem for children from Shel Silverstein published in his book, "Every Thing On It." Sometimes we all feel like no one really truly knows us, as if we are wearing a mask and our true self is hidden from all underneath our face.

    Underneath my outside face
There's a face that none can see.
    A little less smiley,
    A little less sure,

  17. 57. A Thorny Rose

    • By Kirston D. Warfield
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006

A young girl compares life to a rose.

Our life is like a thorny rose
    Not perfect, but always beautiful
The thorns represent the hardships in our lives.
The delicate red petals represent the fun and beautiful things in our lives.

  18. 58. You Are Enough

Along the way I have learned a tough lesson: even in my imperfection I am still worthy of love, someone’s time, and a consistent feeling of wholeness.
My value is not connected to perfection, strength, or my ability to weather a storm. Which means that even on those days when I struggle to show up or feel ill-equipped, I am still a woman of worth and value

    You are enough
You have always been enough, and
    You will forever be
    Enough

As I replace them with others.
They are forgotten and stored away.
Although the memories are pushed to the side,
