Poems on Being Hurt from Love

In a loving relationship, there are often hurt feelings. We have certain expectations of our partner, and when they do not live up to them we are likely to feel a sense of betrayal. The truth is that if we put our hurt aside for a moment we may realize that our lover was not even aware of the expectations that we had for them. These expectations are probably a carryover of fantasies that we have in our heart of how a perfect lover behaves. It is OK to have these expectations. However, if we expect our partner to fulfill them for us we must at let them know what we would like.

  1. 1. Nobody Knows

Being left by our love is painful, but what is more painful? Leaving your love knowingly and seeing him fight for you. That's the most painful. She knows it's her mistake. She knows she is giving him pain. She knows she can change it all but still can't and won't. She knows how empty she is without him. She loves him, but she can't express it. She has no one to express it to but her diary...

    Nobody knows it's empty,
    The smile that I wear.
The real one is left behind in the past
    Because I left you there...

  3. 2. Tears Of A Broken Heart

I have been in a six year relationship and he still does not know what he means to me. I wrote this poem during the saddest time of our lives. He lost a loved one and I was not able to comfort him. Every word in this poem is truly meant; it's as if my heart was speaking all on its own. I dedicate this to all of those who have been lost in your own love.

I have given all my love to you, but what do I get in return?
    A broken heart.
I have given you my heart, and you stomp on it like a doormat.
I have given you my youth and you took advantage of my un-experienced heart and played with my emotions.

    • By Shelli
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems July 2009

Poem about being confused by breakup.

I thought it was a dream; I thought it wasn't real,
But pain really hurts and it's really how I feel.
Memories keep coming back, and so do all of the tears.
I hear your voice, and as quick as the smile came, it quickly disappears.

  8. 6. Unconditionally Painfully In Love

    • By Jasmine S. Johnson
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems February 2009

My name is Jasmine, and I have a man I love with all of my heart. But we love with pain. In this poem I am letting people know that you don't have to love with pain. You can stop it at any time. But in my situation I just don't know how to stop it. Or I may have gotten so immune to it that I am afraid to find the outcome of it when I do stop.

This pain is taking its toll,
But my love it never gets old.
    The trials and defeated emotions
Keeping me sane with magical potions.

  9. 7. The Hardest Thing I'll Ever Do

This poem is about a guy I dated for 3 1/2 years. We broke up because he said he didn't want to break my heart, but he did when we broke up. I moved away with my mother after this, and 4 years after we broke up, I got my license and decided I would go see him. We started talking again and he told me all these lies about how he wanted to be with me. After 4 months, he went back to his ex-girlfriend, and once again left me with a broken heart and alone.

The hardest thing I'll ever do
    Is let go of you
And look forward instead of back at my past.
I wonder how long this broken heart will last.

  10. 8. You Will Regret

My best friend fell in love for the first time in her life with a person she thought was her soul mate. He kept playing games and wasn't honest with her about how he felt. It broke her heart, and I wrote this poem to represent how she felt.

    You will regret
    That you made me cry,
That you didn't see your love in my eye,
That you failed my heart and didn't even try.

  11. 9. Is It Worth The Pain?

    • By Caity
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2013

I have been with my boyfriend for almost three years. I was only 17 and he was 28 when we started dating. I was still stupid and partying and started using drugs. I lied to him and really hurt him, and he became physically abusive. We love each other and decided to work on it, and we now have a baby together. But he still cannot get over the past, and it's gotten to the point where I feel trampled all over and tired of trying...I love him and I know he loves me, but should it be this hard?

Saying you loved me, with that look in your eye.
I wish I could say it was a cold-hearted lie.
I know that you love me, I know that you care,
But the rage inside you slowly flared.

  14. 12. I Want You Back

    • By Sania Harris
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems November 2008

Someone I loved dearly was avoiding me. He sounded more interested in other girls, so I felt really hurt - so hurt that I cried the whole day, and then I wrote this poem. It is straight from my heart.

    Sitting by the river,
    Dreaming through my reflection,
    I wonder what has happened.
    What has caused this distance?

  15. 13. Love Hate

    • By David Charlton
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2015

I wrote this poem when struggling with being in love with someone and not really enjoying how it changed my thought process and influenced my actions.

Of all the emotions a person can feel,
Love is scariest and hardest to heal.
Excitement and mystery impossible to resist.
    Promises of magic perpetually persist.

  20. 18. When We

This is written from experiencing a marriage and several relationships with a "bad boy." My home girl and I have spent years watching, waiting, and standing behind our ol' men who have lied, cheated, abused, been locked up, and taken us for granted. It seems like an endless cycle until we either win, lose, give up, or die.

When all we hear are the empty promises and lies
That leave behind broken hearts and shattered lives,
When trust is gone and hope is lost,
What are we fighting for and who really pays the cost?

  21. 19. The Worst Pain Known To Me

    • By Tanya E. Kent
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems October 2020

Over the past few months, I have learned what it feels like to accidentally fall in love with someone who is already taken. I have never felt a pain like this. I am an educated and self-sufficient woman. Normally I am one to make sound decisions, but this was unpreventable. I am trying to find any way possible to keep these feelings from bottling up inside. Hopefully these feelings will pass. I am sure there is someone out there with a similar situation, though I would not wish this upon anyone.

The worst pain known to me
Is to be stuck on a love that never could be,
To love someone who'll never be free.
The worst pain known to me.

  22. 20. Forever

    • By Wesley
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems September 2017

This poem is about promises that someone you truly love made to you, and within a second, they had thrown it all away, including you. You feel hurt, as though no one had really cared, and slowly you lose hope in the meaning of the words "I love you" and "forever." It's about heartbreak and knowing that it will never be true.

Forever means nothing in my eyes.
It's just a word you use to cover up lies,
To hide your tracks each night you leave
So I don't worry and start to believe.
