Spiritual Poem about Death

Poem Seeking Comfort In Times Of Loss

I wrote this poem 2 nights before my dad passed away from cancer. Everyday like clockwork we would talk on the phone. Less than a week before he died he could no longer hold the phone or talk at all. I felt like I lost him before I even did. Writing this helped to bring me some peace as I watched him die. Knowing his voice and words would always be with me anytime I needed him whether he was here or not. In memory of my daddy Arthur Lee Tucker.

A Phone Call To Heaven

I dreamt last night of heaven, and God was standing there
His arms were stretched out open, and he asked "Child why are you here?"
"I'm looking for my daddy, and I know that he is home
But I keep trying to call him and he doesn't pick up his phone."
God said," Child he is with me now, there is no need to fear
Anytime you want to talk to him, know that he is always near.
There is a direct line to heaven and it's not too far away
All you have to do is get on your knees and bow your head to pray.
On the other end there he'll be, listening to your every word
Make sure you listen close my child for his voice it will be heard.
In your heart his voice will sound, so clearly you will tell
His words of love and support to comfort that all is well
So anytime you want to or need to hear his voice
A phone call to heaven would be the greatest choice."
