Poems about God Walking With Us

Is there a higher power or a God out there? Why did It create us? What is the meaning of it all? When one is on a spiritual quest, these are some of the questions one encounters. Of course, if such a being were to show itself, that would answer all our questions. But without questions, might that take some of the excitement out of the search? The world is intended to be a place of free choice. The more clearly God is manifest in the world, the less we can choose to ignore his presence. His choice not to show himself is a gift to human beings to be able choose their own destinies.

  1. 1. A Gift From God

A poem about the power of love, sadly now lacking in this world of ours.

    Love can't be described.
It has no shape, it has no form.
    Love is not an object.
    Love does not conform.

  3. 2. My Angel

I am 42 years old and have always had a deep belief in God. I became addicted to drugs at an early age and walked away from that relationship and lived a life of insanity. I hit rock bottom and found my way back to God, and with his love and guidance I have rebuilt my life and made amends with those I harmed. I have been clean of drugs and alcohol for over 9 years and do my best every day to be an example and a good person.

I felt the love of an angel today,
For the first time since I walked away.
I've felt guilt and shame for so many years,
But the angel freed me of that through my tears.

  5. 3. Every Scar Has A Story

    • By Kristina M. DeCarlo
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2015

I wrote this poem right before my second brain surgery. I have a large scar that I've learned not to be ashamed of, but to embrace, precisely because it tells a wonderful story of how God has worked in my life and worked all things together for my good.

    Every scar has a story.
    What will mine tell?
    What will come of this
when I’m better, when I’m well?

  6. 4. Whispers Of The Lord

    • By Shannon Tackett
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2015

This poem is about how much I need the Lord in my daily life and how much his love impacts my daily life.

The Lord whispered to me, "I love you so,"
"Come follow me, my child, high places we will go."
The Lord knelt beside me at an altar in prayer,
He wiped my tears and took away my despair.

  7. 5. Day By Day

The poem is about being aware of God's providence during turbulent times and being encouraged to trust Him and not panic.

Day by day, God walks with me,
and my burdens he helps me bear.
Each step I take along the way,
my loving Father is always there.

  8. 6. Searching For God

When searching for God, there's no need to look far. God is beside you wherever you are.

    When searching for God,
There's no need to look far.
    He's not in the clouds
    Or some far away star.

  9. 7. He Is There

    • By Yasemin Raymondo
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems December 2008

One Sunday at Mass, Father John Carney at St. Mary's Church in Panama, (Rep. of Panama) gave his usual sermon. But something in what he said hit me so powerfully that I came home and wrote this poem that I now share with you. I hope you will perceive God as I did on that Sunday through the words of an inspirational priest.

God comes to us in quiet and simple ways.
He is there when the breeze rustles the palm fronds on a quiet, lazy, sunny afternoon.
When the raindrops softly patter on the thirsty tin roofs of the poor, he is there.

  10. 8. God Of All Comfort

I am an aspiring singer, dancer, and poet. I write songs to express my feelings, and I do the same for poems. I wrote this poem to remind everyone that God loves us deeply and He is our only comfort.

Our God supplies us everything we need.
When we need help, to Him we reach.
He is always with us when we are lonely.
He loves us so much and takes anger slowly.

  11. 9. My Lord Told Me

    • By Kenny C.
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems March 2015

This is a poem I felt compelled to write about my faith in the one who completely changed the way that I see the world, my LORD JESUS. I hope that it will change someone else's view as well or maybe help someone in doubt about their security in HIM. Be blessed and I hope you enjoy.

My LORD told me that HIS love would not fail,
as HE showed me a hand that was pierced by a nail.

HE told me I'm safe, started lifting the veil,

  12. 10. Created

I recently lost the love of my life to divorce. It has nearly devastated me. I also have many friends experiencing the same pain. I don't write much, but at 2am, I started thinking of all the things that I could say to comfort my friends. As I was writing, I began to comfort myself also by including the things that I had read and heard about how God would want me to feel and think. The only thing that has kept me going is knowing that God has a better plan for me.

    When God created you,
He knew what he would see.
    Someone that wasn't perfect,
Or in heaven you would be.

  13. 11. A Sinner's Plea

Though I grew up in church and still go today, sometimes in my walk with God I just have doubts like I have heard in others. So this one inspired me just to get it out.

Is God still showing me love
As He looks down from above?
    He silently sheds a tear
as He longs to be near.

  14. 12. God Is In Control

    • By La'shawna Howard

I wrote this poem for someone special to me who is suffering with cancer. She is a member of my church. She has encouraged me and been an inspiration to me. This poem is dedicated to Annette Keenan.

  15. 13. God, The Great Creator

My inspiration for this poem is God. I see all the beauty He has created around us. It's so overwhelming not to think about everything he has made.

    A crisp, cool autumn evening,
Stars fill the night up high.
    God, the great creator,
    Decking out the sky.

  16. 14. Only A Prayer Away

    • By Sabrina
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems April 2015

This poem just flowed out of me. I strongly believe that God is watching over me. And in all your times, not just those of need, remember: God is only a prayer away.

When all seems down and lost
Just think of he who died on the cross.
    He shall guide you through
Your time of hurt and blue.

This poem is written from God's point of view.

No need more crucial than another.

  18. 16. History

I wrote this sometime after the 9/11 attacks...and I say "wrote" because I do not know exactly how to describe this. It just FLOWED out of me. I cannot explain it, as I never write things like this. I guess I had help.

You were there in ’41 when the bombs came raining down
And there in 1945 when victory came to town.
With ticker tape and bands and speeches, loud and raucous cheers,
We all gave thanks to You that day, some through stinging tears.

  19. 17. You Never Promised Us A Perfect Life, But Only A Perfect Love

We often question the love God has for us, so I wrote a poem describing my feelings.

You never promised us a perfect life, but only a perfect love.
We seek you in prayer and look for you as you are,
Our everlasting savior, a bright and shining star.
Sometimes we are out there lost, seeking your acceptance,

  20. 18. Hope In God

I have noticed through life experience and through reading this poetry site that many people are hurting, just as I have been hurt before. I still have problems in my life, but I no longer hurt as much as I used to because of only one thing: my hope and trust in God. I want to encourage readers to look to God for comfort and healing, for there's no better way.

    When everything seems hopeless,
Don't focus on the whole mess.
    Just count on every blessing.
    Then slowly you'll start progressing.

    • By Jacqueline Burciaga
    •  Published by Family Friend Poems May 2011

Even though I grew up in church, there was a time I was far from God. But with everything I went through in this life, I've come to realize God is the only one who can keep me going, gives me strength, and will never leave my side.

Because you picked me up when I struggled to get through
Because you healed my heart when it was thrown and shattered
Because you gave me hope when it seemed so out of reach
Because you filled me with peace when chaos flowed through my veins
