My name is Garrett S., and what inspired me to write this poem was getting ready to play my last high school football game. Football has always been the world to me, and I wanted to portray that emotion with young readers across the world.

On Friday nights
Underneath the lights
That shine so bright
We play the game

As we get ready
Tired and sweaty
Our legs getting heavy
We play the game

Through the hurt and the pain
Through the loss and the gain
On the front stands our name
We play the game

For small town fame
So people know our name
To be what we claim
We play the game
