  1. 1. Daddy

    • By Ginger C. Smith
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2006 with permission of the Author.

"You're not my father, but you will always be my dad."

    in Father Poems

I'm just sitting here thinking about what you mean to me,
Remembering all the things you've done for me.
You've been there for me from the start,
Knowing what to say to keep me from falling apart,
Taking everything that comes your way, good or bad.
Even though you're not my father, you'll always be my dad.
I can't count high enough for every time you went out of your way.
Knowing you're there keeps me going every day.
When I need encouragement, you're the first to give it.
When I have a problem, you always have the best advice to fix it.
I could sit here and say, "Thank you," from now till I die, but it wouldn't be enough.
I can only wish if I went through what you did I could be so tough.
    I'll always love you unconditionally
    From now till eternity.

  2. 2. Special Hero

    • By Christina M. Kerschen
    • Published by Family Friend Poems November 2006 with permission of the Author.

Memories of her dad holding her in his arms are a continuous reminder of the love between them.

    in Father Poems

    When I was a baby,
you would hold me in your arms.
I felt the love and tenderness,
    keeping me safe from harm.
I would look up into your eyes,
and all the love I would see.
How did I get so lucky?
You were the dad chosen for me.
    There is something special
    about a father's love.
Seems it was sent to me
    from someplace up above.
    Our love is everlasting.
I just wanted you to know
    that you're my special hero,
and I wanted to tell you so.

  4. 3. Father

    • By Jennifer S. Williams
    • Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006 with permission of the Author.

This poem is from daughter to father. It says thanks for being there for me in all the right ways. I love you, dad.

    in Father's Day Poems

    When I scratched my knee,
Or if I bumped my head,
When I was afraid of the dark,
Or that thing under my bed,
When I cried in the night,
    Or even in the day,
    You were there for me
    To make it all okay.

    You tickled my feet
And laughed at all my jokes.
    You taught me to believe
    In having high hopes.
    You are my father.
You did what you had to do,
    But more than a father
    You are my friend, too.
    You made everything good
    That was once bad.
I just want you to know
    I love you, Dad.

  5. 4. A Different Kind Of Hero

    • By Kelsee Briscoe
    • Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006 with permission of the Author.

Poem saying thank you dad for father's day and every day.

    in Family Poems by Teens

He is not the kind of hero who is fighting in the war.
He is not one who sails offshore.

I don't call him Sergeant, Captain, or Sir.
His title is DAD; that is for sure!

He is the fixer of my broken things
And the household doctor when I get bee stings.

He picks me up when I fall down
And always turns my frown upside down.

He keeps me safe when I sleep at night.
He gives me seconds when I have a big appetite.

That's my Dad. That's who he is.
He deserves a medal for the things he did.

    • By Laura Phipps
    • Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006 with permission of the Author.

A succinct poem of beauty of a girl saying thank you to her daddy.

    in Father Poems

You held me up when I was weak.
You hugged me close when tears I'd weep.
When things got hard, you pushed me through.
You always showed me you loved me true.
I know there were times I made you cry, and to this day,
    I don't know why.
For without you, where would I be?
I am thankful God gave you to me.
Thanks, Dad, for you are one in a million.

    • By Tukesha Ware
    • Published by Family Friend Poems August 2010 with permission of the Author.

My name is Tukesha Ware. I'm a 30-year-old single mother of one with a dream of becoming a writer or a teacher. I'm from Georgia but am now living in North Carolina. I'm going back to school this year.

    in Father Poems

    Not many people can say
    they have a true friend
Someone that stands by your side
and shows devotion with no end
    The person that encourages you
to reach for your dreams and goals
The one that understands the hardships
    hidden deep within your soul
That person that stays up at night
When you need a listening ear
The only person in the world
    that knows your deepest fear
That shoulder that you cry on
When life doesn't go according to plan
They help you dust yourself off
and muscle the strength to stand
That person you can count on
When times are good and bad
    Someone you're blessed with...
    I call mine Dad!

  9. 7. My Perfect Dad

    • By Samantha K
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2016 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem to my dad as a birthday present. It's a way of saying thanks for being the "perfect" dad.

    in Father Poems

I have the very perfect dad,
That is something anyone could see.
But I don't know if I've told him
Exactly what he means to me.

Perhaps he thinks I've missed his lessons
    Or that we've grown apart,
    But Dad, I've picked up every one;
They're forever written on my heart.

My dad is gentle but strong
    And knows right from wrong.
He will sit with me all through the night,
That is why he is my glowing light.

My dad is like the stars,
    Somehow he's always there.
My dad is someone who will always help,
Who shows support and will always care.

My dad is like a book, the endings are never clear.
But through the pages, his love is always near.
My dad will always be; he helps define just who I am
And is part of me eternally.

When times are good, when times are bad,
The greatest man in the world will forever be...my dad.

I went through cancer at 10, and my dad was always there for me. He is my best friend, so I wrote this for him.

    in Family Poems by Teens

    You're more than a dad
    But a kind, loving man

    You showed me the ways
    In which I stand

You taught me good from bad
And all there is to know

    I love you so much,
    And your gentleness shows

You care for me and love me so much
You watch over me with your gentle touch

    You make me feel special
With all the love you show

Thank you, dad, for being there for me
    Through the rough and so

    You're not only my dad
But a best friend, it's true

For I love you so much
And this is from me to you

  11. 9. My Daddy

    • By Ranja Kujala
    • Published by Family Friend Poems July 2009 with permission of the Author.

My dad was amazing in every way. I wrote this for him when he was in the hospital and put it on his wall so he always knew how much I loved him. He sadly passed away, so I put this poem in his hands so it was with him always. Love and miss you so much...always and forever...your baby girl!

    in Father Poems

I sit and look back to how far I can remember,
And you are always there next to me.
Each and every day you were helping me grow up,
And making me be the best that I can be.

    Your love was forever strong,
    Your cuddles forever tight.
Every day since I was born,
Your love was always in sight.

I will always be your Baby Girl,
And you will always be my Dad.
I know I will always be the luckiest
To have the best Dad any girl could have had.

My Daddy, I love you with all my heart,
Much more than I ever say.
You are my world, my everything,
    Each and every day.

  14. 12. Open Arms

    • By Nicole R. Melson
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2019 with permission of the Author.

Just a bit about my dad and me. I have two sisters, and my parents are divorced. I see my father as often as I can, but I never see my mother; she now lives in another state, but she used to live only hours away and could have visited me. But she only visited my sisters who were in a completely different state. Anyway, I do have a step-mother who is awesome. My dad is my rock, and since it is Father's Day soon, I wrote this poem.

    in Family Poems for Kids

You're the one with open arms
    When the darkness closes in.
When the shadows come and the nightmares make it hard to sleep,
You're always there to chase them all away.
You were there with every skinned knee and every time I cried.
When I messed up, you were there to show me what I did wrong.
When you went to work in your big truck,
I waited patiently at the window for my daddy to arrive.
As I got older and wanted different things,
The one thing that never changed
Was running into my daddy's arms.

    • By Crystal M. Deprey

A letter of love to a loving dad

    in Father Poems

I know that I'm not perfect, and I'm sure you know that too,
But it means the world to know that I can always talk to you.
I am sure you didn't expect all this when you took me in to stay.
But you still loved me enough that you did it anyway.
You always seemed so calm, when deep down you were so scared,
And no matter how serious it was, you always seemed prepared.
I know I'm lucky to have you here, after all that you've been through,
And no matter what just happened, I can always say I love you.
You always can forgive me, even when times get bad,
And I'll love you until the day I die, because you are my miracle dad!

  16. 14. My Hero, Best Friend, My Daddy

    • By Crystal M. Hernandez
    • Published by Family Friend Poems March 2008 with permission of the Author.

I dedicate this poem to my daddy who has never hurt me, always respected me and understands me. Never has told on me and is always close to save me. The truth is, I doubt there is a better daddy than mine. He is one of a kind.

    in Father Poems

My daddy looks tough as nails
    And hard as metal.
But the truth is easy to tell
    He's sweet and loving
    And can always understand me.
    Patient he is,
And he always makes a big difference in my everyday life.
Always managing to put a smile on my face.
Even when his days aren't so good.
    My daddy is my hero.
He is my best friend I can always trust,
And I don't have to worry about being misjudged.
    He is my daddy,
And above everybody, he is who makes me feel very happy.
The truth is, I love my daddy.

  17. 15. To A Terrific Dad

    • By David L. Helm
    • Published by Family Friend Poems February 2006 with permission of the Author.

A son writes a poem to his father, telling his dad just how terrific he is.

    in Father Poems

    Analysis of Form and Technique

To a dad who is terrific,
To a dad who's real neat,
To a dad who makes the best of things,
Even when they're not so sweet!

To a dad who's growing older,
To a dad who's going gray,
To a dad who just gets smarter,
It would seem from day to day!

To a dad who has potential,
To a dad who is the best,
To a dad who's been successful,
And who drowns out all the rest!

    To a dad I admire,
To a dad I can trust,
    To a dad I appreciate.
That's what makes this rhyme a must!

To a dad I call father,
To a dad who's held it through,
To a dad I'll love forever,
Because Dad, you know it's YOU!

What are the qualities that make a good dad?

    in Father's Day Poems

A Dad is someone you can count on
    Someone who is always there
Someone who listens when you talk
Who knows when you are lying
And when you are telling the truth
A Dad is someone who protects you
    And cares about you

  19. 17. Happy Father's Day

    • By Chelsea P. Medrano
    • Published by Family Friend Poems June 2014 with permission of the Author.

I wrote this poem for my dad for Father's Day 2010. Everything is heartfelt and came from me, and I meant every word towards my dad.

    in Father's Day Poems

When I wake in my sleep
You are there to comfort me
    With mommy by your side
    ...To help me breathe

    You help with so much
    And sacrifice yourself
    To help us get better
    And teach us to succeed
    To not be afraid
    Give strength to believe

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    Remember you're a father
    And ability is your thing
In my eyes, a father can do anything

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    A father is always there
    To protect and save
    Happy Father's Day

    You're my hero
    And my base
My life would be forever changed
    If you weren't here

    Inch by inch I've grown
And grew up to be so mature
    But I wouldn't be here
    If the courage wasn't you

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    Remember you're a father
    And ability is your thing
In my eyes, a father can do anything

    Happy Father's Day
    You deserve to be praised
    A father is always there
    To protect and save

  21. 19. Loving Like A Daddy Can

    • By Shayna Montgomery

A dad being loving as only a daddy can be...

    in Father Poems

Daddy, Daddy sit me on your knee.
    Together we will always be.
    Closest of friends,
    From beginning to end.
You always knew what was best,
While you guided me through trials and tests.
    You were always there,
Never ashamed to be my teddy bear.
    Looking up at the stars,
You're holding me in your arms.
    I'm wrapped up so tight,
I could not escape with all my might.
You're my protector; you're my shield
    From life's playing field.
I want to thank you from my heart.
I believe that nothing could ever tear us apart.
