Falling in Love Poem

The Love Of My Life

This is the first sonnet I wrote, in 1999, telling of a traumatised and hurt person given hope, joy, fulfilment and happiness in finding love. Although scars remain as part of the story, and rightly so, the story is now one of hope, light shining in the darkness, and coming through day by day. If this chimes with your dream in any way, I would encourage you to hold on to the promises that are all around, even in the shadows, because darkness has little power when you trust in your guiding light.

A Life's Love

As waves crash into foam upon Earth's shores,
And all their driving force dissolves in peace,
So do my self-driv'n prides meet your resource,
Which bids their angry heaving surges cease;
And broken to a humbler, kinder form,
Which seeks to wash more gently, tired feet,
So does my life regain its long-lost norm,
With cooling balm your patient shores to greet.
Then your true love receives me, drinks me in;
All of my life is peaceful, loving flow,
And to the deepest ocean I am kin,
Whence I once came, whither I soon shall go;
But had I ne'er found peace upon your shore,
Had roamed my angry billows evermore.
