Hope Poem

Overcoming Addiction

I haven't written any poetry in the past 30 years. I was in a group session and my therapist told me to write about something. Something as simple as a color. So I wrote blue and it was published in the Recovery First newsletter. I've been sober for over 2 years now and writing poetry was and has been a great outlet to overcome addiction.

We wash away our fears,
as we apply the soap.
To renew the canvas,
and draw inspiration from hope.

Painted with tears,
as our addiction copes.
Releasing minds direction,
a close brush with a stroke.

With soul in hand,
we apply a new coat.

We're used to painting ourselves,
into a once sinking boat.
Now we stand peacefully on land,
as the waves crash it against the coast.
