Loss of a Friend Poem

10 Years Feels Like Yesterday But I Still Remember

About a close friend Dena Luketic. Taken from this earth way too soon at the age of 26. How after ten years I still remember her and can hear her laughter like a whisper in the wind and how much I miss her.

You Are Not Forgotten

Its been ten years since I last hear your laugh and seen your smile
but today I can hear them like whispers in the wind
and see that smile in my minds eye.
The kind that could change your whole day for the better.

I remember meeting you when you first moved here
we hit it off right away.
working together, partying together,
sharing hopes and dreams, our struggles and problems.
neither of us was perfect but the beauty was neither of us cared.

You had your demons and struggles as had I.
but today only one of us remains and I can't help but wonder why its me.
so much left unsaid because we were young
so much I wish I could have told you how much you mean to me.

You were there for my heartaches as I was there for yours
but I can't help but feel I wasn't there when it mattered most.
I would do things differently if I could
but that is with the wisdom of now.

I can only hope that your in a better place
and that free spirit of yours is finally flying free.
I miss you terribly, the tears flow free even after ten years,
I lost a part of me.

Dena you will never be forgotten by me
and I hope to meet you again and we can share
those moment that defined you and me.
but know that as long as I live your smile and memories live as well.
until we meet again I sorely miss thee.

today i spent shedding tears for a friend
I couldn't mourn for at the time.
The pain I feel today is like I lost you yesterday.
I scrolled through our old photos
and I cant help but feel your just a phone call away.

I would give anything just to have one more day with you.
to drive and talk or walk the strip laughing.
so many moved on and seem to have left your memory behind
but here today in this one moment and time
I choose to remind the world what it lost

A young woman in her prime, heart on her sleeve
and no matter how screwed up life got always had a smile.
God truly made a masterpiece when he made you.
I love you and will always love you
and you may not have made the history books or changed the world
but you sure as hell changed mine.
