Poem For The One I Love

I am a retired professional who writes poems as a hobby. I have never had a poem published. I write mostly rhyming poems, but I would like to learn free verse. I live in an apartment down the hall from a beautiful woman who loves nature and fights on behalf of animals. I sometimes write poems for her because she enjoys reading them. We have been together as a couple for eight and a half years.

Our Love

when the stream of time began to flow
when the world we know first came to be
when the stars first formed a sparkling sea
our love was born

before the break of that first dawn
before the summer wind could breathe a sigh
before plumed minstrels scaled the sky
our love had wings

and this love we feel will always be
until the final minstrel ends its flight
until the final day meets final night
our love will live
